FAQ for Para Bellum

Para Bellum - Effects
- New set of effects and textures (dust, smoke and blood) to increase the realism in the battlefield.
- Includes a custom adaptation of the Rivers of Blood mod so it is not required with this package.
- Blood & Gore DLC required for the blood effects.

Installation instructions
Subscribe and place the different parts of the mod in alphabetical order in the Mod Manager:

1. Para Bellum - Campaign (includes specific instructions and translation files)
2. Para Bellum - Combat
3. Para Bellum - Effects (includes specific instructions)
4. Para Bellum - Factions
5. Para Bellum - Interface
6. Para Bellum - Population (includes specific instructions)
7. Para Bellum - Units (requires the other Para Bellum - Units parts)
8. Para Bellum - Units II (requires the other Para Bellum - Units parts)
9. Para Bellum - Units III (requires the other Para Bellum - Units parts)
10. Para Bellum - Weather (includes specific instructions)

Though I recommend to use all the modules together, they can work separately so you can apply what you want, but keeping the order regardless of the number of subscribed parts.

Para Bellum - Effects specific instructions:

1. Subscribe the mod -> requires Blood & Gore DLC for the blood effects.
2. Choose and download one of the files at:
-> click to download[1drv.ms]
- Para Bellum - Effects movie.pack <- Includes blood, dust, fire and smoke effects.
- Para Bellum - Effects Lite movie.pack <- Only blood effects (less GPU intensive).
3. Put the file in the "data" folder of the game directory, located in: \Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Rome II\data.
4. Go into Options-> Mods in the game menu and enable the use of Movie type mods.
5. Set the terrain quality to Very High/Ultra to prevent blood stains to disappear from the ground.

Performance
The effects mod is optimized, though some users could experience that at max setings it can be GPU intensive in certains conditions, like zooming into a big melee in a city battle or with a lot of fire. The issue is that Rome 2 engine doesn't address more than 3GB vram, and when that limit is exceeded, it will start using system ram to handle additional textures data, which is much slower than the vram, and may bottleneck the cpu.

Compatibility
Even though Para Bellum is designed in a modular way which facilitates compatibility, each part is independent and is specifically designed to work together with the other mods of the collection. Please note that Para Bellum includes lots of new tables and thousands of new entries, and if combined with other mods of the same type or that share content, it will be overwritten and will mess up proper functioning although the game runs apparently fine. Therefore, I only bring support for the mods included in the Para Bellum Official Mods and the Submods and compatible mods Collections that you can find above in the description.

- Multiplayer compatibility only if both players have exactly the same contents (mods and/or GEMFX installed and subscribed). Also the Para Bellum Multiplayer patch is highly recommended (contained in the Para Bellum submods Collection).

- Compatible with all DLC campaigns and contents.

- Ancestral Update (Patch 20) compatible.

I have the same problems as @BuzzDeeDe...
This has nothing to do with other mods or graphical settings, because my PC can handle those very good!
And another thing I should point out, is that the Besieged City/Town Smoke is too excessive and unrealistic, imho!

Thanks!

How do I ensure that the dismembered parts remain permanent?

After placing the downloaded movie pack file into the data folder all bare skin textures are invisible.

Yo for some reason the Rome total war II File isn't there and i know that i did download the game. Anyone have the solution?

Hi maybe someone can help me.
I followed your instructions since they are not that complicated. I went for the file with all your effects. Some seem to work, some not. I am always testing that on the first Prologue-Mission.

Fire on the ground from siege weapons and the dust which is created by men marching / running look like big squares, while the siege-weapon effects while shooting and the smoke from burning buildings seem to work. Blood i can't see through the big dust-cubes so i can't say if they work properly.

This is the only graphics enhancement i have installed, except for HD-Cities and HD-Campaign things (just forgot the name but both just adjust the campaign map so there should not be an issue here right?)

I activated the movie-mods, i activated the blood effects in the option-menu. Particles, effects, Terrain and Units are set to the extreme settings.

Do you know anything to help me so i can enjoy those effects you made?
Thanks in advance!

@ Cyrus: Emperor of Mankind: No, It is not compatible with other effects mods. You just need the file available in the instructions.

@ Hardrada & oFxZionzx-IX: You're welcome. Enjoy!

Updated effects:

- Now you can spark the buildings with the incendiary artillery, and they will burn with big flames and smoke columns. In addition, depending on the material they can end up with a nice deflagration.
- The effects of artillery hits on terrain have been improved, with a new artillery impacts texture and raising dirt. Also the incendiary artillery effects on the terrain are improved, with the terrain burning, etc.
- The properties of many particles has been enhanced: now the blood will remain the whole battle duration; the smoke and fire effects, the dust raised by the troops, the desert wind or the snow in the blizzard, are no longer limited by the rendering distance.
- The dust effects now are adapted to each type of terrain (snow, grass, mud, desert).
- Volcanic eruptions on the campaign map.
- No FPS impact noticed, in comparison with the previous version.
