I love the detail where the target practice and the killhouse segments are actually usable when you turn on the generator

If I remember, TWI removed these details on their version

Holy shit this map captures the vibe and aesthetics of the game better than any other map. I don't even think that Tripwire (and especially Saber) understand the artstyle that it was originally going for.

The only improvement they made was the dropdown to the training course from the corridor to the firing range, since it opens up more space for kiting. Everything else is a complete 180 from the original, and not for the better.

To keep it short, TW's version of this map has these issues:

* Tons of random objects placed around the map that clutter much of the movable
space/sightlines, which makes kiting a nightmare and allows for cheap zed spawns.

* Extra zed spawns that punish holding areas, essentially it screws you over regardles which playstyle you choose.

* The visual design is a mess, tons of fog even inside the bunker which is out of place and the skybox + lighting makes it hard to distinguish if it's day or night. It also has the side-effect of making the generator pointless.

* Moving the generator button to a less convenient spot.

It's truly a shame to see your map butchered the way it was. Hopefully, TWI gets their heads out of their bottoms and roll back these awful changes. Cheers.

The original is uncomparably better. This is the only version of this map I am willing to play. Thank you Delta for creating this masterpiece, and I am so sorry TWI butchered it.

So I just pushed an update to the original map. The map name is now "KF-DesolationOriginal" to avoid conflicts with the official version of the map.

There were some general tweaks and bug fixes around the map, all them were not addressed in the official version (even though they were reported). For a full list of changes check the changelog. If you do see any bugs or issues please feel free to report them in the bug thread.

For those unaware the changes to the official version radically change the map for the worse, and agreed they are bad by the majority of the community. This version of the map will stay up on the workshop. If you would like to see a comprehensive list of changes check the video below:

I would like to thank everyone for the support over the years; from the map's original release, up to its integration into the game and post map-butchering. It has really meant a lot, especially recently.

You currently have to rename the workshop version of this map (in \Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Cache\1503129313\0\Published\BrewedPC) to see it in your local map list. It shares the name "KF-Desolation" with the inferior official version. Just posting in case someone is stuck. The author is aware of the conflict.

Official yes, but I wonder what TW will change on this map to make it less enjoyable like they did on Sanitarium. They put a wall with an arch in front of the big staircase at the bottom of the map so it forces 1 player to hold the stairs and nobody can really help out because the arch is too small. They also took away a lot of the effects and changed/removed sounds from those coloured areas, if you walked in the creepy hallway near the saarlac type trap or if you stepped into the red ring (next to one of the traders) it would play sounds and going through the hallway with all the arms poking out, that was turned down quite a lot so the whole map is less atmospheric. They did turn the tentacle noises up to 11 though, which is just annoying because it's 5x louder than anything else in the game and it just hurts your ears if you have the volume up.

Honestly the map looks good and plays alright, but it's way too dark when there's no lights on. There's a lot of obstacles and ways to get stuck if you don't play inside the corridors of the map. It's not as good as people make it out to be, but it's an okay map.

Hey Everyone!

Just pushed an update, fixed some minor map issues but more importantly improved optimization on the map; in some areas you should see a 4-7 fps increase. There were some very minor tweaks to the environment, but one cool new feature was added - a large satellite dish to help tie the lore of the map closer to it being a monitoring outpost for Horzine.

has to be relit. The shadow contrast is waaay to extreme in some areas, there is no GI for the most part, and i would advice, even while expensive, to set the Directonal Light to moveable. its really weird to have a well lit weapon and character, but the environment is almsot unseeable dark.

This map looks incredible. I get the feeling looking through the pictures that it looks like a command and conquer style Nod base, with some weyland yutani stuff in there, then you got waay more there too. Fantastic.

Excellent map. Got a stuck zed in the ceiling above the hallway with vegetation at the bottom floor nearby the generator button.
+1 recommend, massive, highly convoluted, detailed & complex! Generator makes for extra fun!
