Description
Have you ever wished Left 4 Dead 2 was just a little bit more realistic? This pack does exactly that, making it a little slower, scarier and more immersive, without going overboard and making the game unplayable. It's more Vanilla+ than a massive overhaul.

It's for single player/local servers only, though you can still join servers and take advantage of the cosmetic mods (although the chat box will be disabled). It works very well in 2 player co-op with bots.



Main Features:

IMMERSION/REALISM
Some of the more "arcadey" game mechanics have been toned down or removed to make it more realistic and immersive:
  • No HUD - with just your health counter and a laser sight, you pay more attention to the world itself and your teammates
  • One Gun Per Weapon Pickup - there's no more infinite M16s, manage your ammo and coordinate weapon pickups with your team
  • Realistic Magazine Sizes - there's no more spray and pray, shooting is purposeful and should be done in bursts
  • Limted Ammo Pistols - pistols run out of ammo, making you watch your bullets (though you will very rarely run out - 300 max ammo for pistols, 80 for the deagle)
  • No Music - there's no horror movie soundtrack anymore, you'll only hear "in-world" sounds and music, letting the audio design shine
  • Impactful Gunplay - weapons use MW2019 animations to make combat and movement weightier, but "tacticool" stuff is kept to a minimum, for immersion's sake
  • No Immersion Breaking Mods


SLOWER PACED SURVIVAL HORROR
The focus has been shifted away from fast paced action to slow paced resource management and horror:
  • Slower Movement Speed - this is the single biggest change, the pace of the game slows right down and the survivors feel much more vulnerable
  • Enhanced Atmosphere - with more downtime, you spend more time appreciating the level design and vibes
  • Darker Lighting - night time campaigns are darker, forcing you to rely more on your flashlight, enhancing the horror
  • Less Ammo - lower max ammo and less ammo pickups mean you have to manage your ammo better and change up your weapons more
  • Items Are Rarer - exploration and looting is now more important, unpredictable and interesting
  • Gun Recoil - shooting feel less "easy" and more impactful


CAREFULLY REBALANCED
Since players are slower, have to reload more, have less max ammo and have limited HUD, the game is much harder. To balance this, the following changes have been made:
  • Less Hordes and Specials - hordes and special infected spawn less frequently, giving you more breathing room
  • Weaker Commons - common infected are now slower and horde sizes are reduced, making intense sections more manageable
  • Guns Do More Damage - since you have to reload more often and have less ammo, guns now do more damage, making them less consistent but better at burst damage
  • Less Hit Slowdown - zombie attacks don't slow you down as much, since it's harder for you to run past them
  • Rebalanced Tanks - Tanks now slightly outrun the survivors and can throw cars, making them much more dangerous, but they can be easily staggered if the whole team shoots them and their health is fixed at 6000 (which is lower than advanced and expert difficulty)
  • Better Bots - bots use items, can complete objectives, have better aim, take less fire/spit damage, wait longer to heal, and call out useful voice prompts, they should hold up better on higher difficulties and feel more convincingly "real"
  • Better Special Infected - witches and hunters have improved AI and spitter goo spreads better over props, I think these changes make it more challenging in a fun way



Other Tweaks:
  • Give or Take Items from Bots - shove with an equipped item to give it to a bot or swap it for a bot's item
  • Use Grenades While Incapped
  • Free Heal When Entering the Saferoom - so there's no need to do the "kill teammate before entering the saferoom" exploit
  • Immersive Reloading - you can switch weapons as soon as the clip enters the gun, you don't have to wait until the whole animation finishes
  • Deal Consistent Damage Across All Difficulties - there's no dmage debuffs to the survivors on higher difficulties, but damage done to you is still increased in higher difficulties (does not affect the Realism specific damage debuffs)
  • Defibrilators Give Less Health - no free healing from killing players and defibbing
  • Survivors Drop Secondaries on Death
  • Every Gun Has a Laser Sight by Default - you can no longer find them in levels
  • Zombies Drop Loot - survivor zombies and police zombies drop more stuff, including guns, to spice up looting
  • Crates Drop Loot - bash crates for extra items
  • Saferoom Doors Break - no more hiding in the saferoom
  • Penalty For Rushers - special infected will target a player who runs way ahead of the team
  • More RNG - random items will spawn and change the route of levels, car alarms will will be randomised, random doors will be opened or closed to make the game unpredictable and more replayable
  • Tanks Have a Bloody Visual Effect When on Low Health - use this to tell how close he is to death
  • Riot Zombies Can Be Shot - their armour protects them but is no longer impenetrable
  • Burning Infected Deal More Damage
  • Movement Tilt - there is a slight movement "tilt" when moving left/right for extra immersion
  • Reload When Picking up Ammo Upgrades - for the realism
  • Plane Propellers Kill You - don't walk into them (Dead Air finale)
  • The "Ellis saved you" style notification still shows up - this is the only piece of HUD I couldn't get rid of
  • Various bug fixes & improvements



Every mod has been carefully selected and tested for quality, compatibility and balance. But there are issues:
  • There is a screeching sound that sometimes plays from corrupted audio from the No Music mod. You avoid this by turning music volume to 0 in settings, but this will also disable jukebox and concert music, the choice is yours.
  • There is stuttering at the beginning of Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns, not sure what's causing this. It's annoying, but only lasts ~10 secs
  • It crashes sometimes, rarely. This is caused by RNG mods, they make the game unstable. If this is an issue for you, you can disable RNG mods.



Gameplay Tips:
  • Use the scoreboard key (default: TAB) to check teammates health and inventories. It's also quicker to use it see your own inventory than scrolling through all your items with the mouse wheel
  • Shoot sparingly, use your secondary more. You have smaller magazines now, less max ammo, less ammo pickups and less weapon pickups, you should only use your primary when it's getting heated and when you do, shoot in bursts to conserve ammo.
  • Loot more - you can no longer breeze through and end up with full inventories, you should spent time exploring if you want to stock up
  • Use any difficulty you want - but I would recommend you start on normal. In some ways it's harder than the default game, but in some ways it's easier, I think it takes some getting used to. I have found the rush to the saferoom finales particularly hard, so don't be afraid to keep the difficulty down.
  • You can no longer tell how much ammo a gun has (since there's no ammo counter) but if you see a gun on the floor with no laser sight on, you can be sure it's got full ammo because when a survivor drops a gun it will have the laser sight on (meaning it's probably been used)
  • Turn up the film grain - it helps with the vibe
