@Drink there is a mod to remove the maximum limit of traits for characters (heroes/lords) so maybe that's what you're remembering?

Isn't there a mod to remove the limit on how many upgrades a unit can have? i can't remember what it's called and i can't seem to find it either.

You might be better off trying the individual versions:

Had the same problem between turn 2-3 playing with Empire SFO Scrap ....
deactivating SFO ALL FACTION UPGRADES and subscribing to the individual SFO Compability mod for the empire solved my problem.
