[WOTC] Iridar's Templar Shield

Description
This mod replaces Templars' Parry ability with Templar Shield. When activated, Templar Shield grants 4/7/10 Shield HP until the start of your next turn. It can be used with both regular and Momentum action points.

This is essentially a nerf to Templars, as Parry is extremely powerful by itself. The upside is that Templar Shield can be used to block multiple weaker attacks, is not consumed by attacks that would have missed the Templar, and does not require using Rend first.

REQUIREMENTS

COMPATIBILITY

The mod looks specifically for the "Parry" ability and replaces it. Abilities with other template names, like Proficiency Templars' Parry, will not be affected.
  • Long War of the Chosen - Compatible, but will not do anything, LWOTC Templars do not use Parry.
  • [WOTC] Proficiency Class Plugin: Templar - compatible, but since Proficiency Templars use their own unique version of Parry, Templar Shield does not replace it, and instead it can randomly appear as an XCOM row perk for ranks 5 through 7.

The amount of Shield HP granted by Templar Shield needs to be configured for each Shard Gauntlet. The mod contains configuration for Shard Gauntlets from mods mentioned below. Other mod-added Shard Gauntlets will not grant any Shield HP, unless specifically configured otherwise.

[WOTC] Energy Shield Overhaul will not affect the Templar Shield ability.

CONFIGURATION

Amount of Shield HP granted by Templar Shield by various gauntlets is configurable in:
..\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2717557425\Config\XComTemplateEditor.ini

The part of the mod that replaces Parry with Templar Shield can be disabled in case some other mod wants to use this mod as a Perk Pack that just adds a new ability without otherwise impacting the game.

COOKED ASSETS

Thanks to Xymanek, this mod's packages are cooked to reduce their size and improve loading times. However, Unreal Editor is unable to open cooked packages, so if for whatever reason you need to inspect this mod's packages, you can find the uncooked version of the mod on GitHub[github.com].

the templar i recruited through covert actions doesnt have the shield ability, and as far i can see nothing else i have should be affecting templar abilities.

Any of y'all encoutnered this?
I suspect it might be caused by equipping the one-handed gauntlet and swapping to regular but not sure why its persisting since i never went into battle wtih just one

@Giggles It's dealing with people like you that make people quit modding.

No need to get defensive, I was just inquiring about compatibility between your mods.

If I'd be doing mod requests of everyone who asks, that's all I'd be doing 24/7.

@Giggles
There are no animations for the shield on the right arm.

> Why not have a comparability mode to generate on the right arm?
Seems one hundred percent pointless to me, I don't know why you're so insistent about wanting for compatibility between two philosophically incompatible mods, but it's just not gonna happen, unless you learn modmaking and do it yourself or something.

Why not have a comparability mode to generate on the right arm? Or in your One Hand mod, have a left arm gauntlet option? Or honestly just a toggle in the config to make it work for those that don't care about nitpicking visuals

@Giggles
Is this not obvious? One Handed Templar removes the left arm. This shiels is generated by the gauntlet on the left arm. How do you expect them to work? I mean, maybe they're not even hard incompatible, but there's no way it's not gonna look dumb.

I looked at the config, how would I go about adding compatability between your One Hand gauntlet with this mod?
Giggles 8 Dec, 2023 @ 4:51am
(having read compatability) Is there a particular reason why the shield won't work with your One Handed Templar mod? Not only is it a usable ability, but it also plays out the full animation when used.
