Desolation is a Traditional KF2 Map with a Jungle & Outpost theme, this is the original version before it was ruined by TWI when they added it to KF2

Desolation a full sized map that has been designed to complement the current state of balance of KF2 and HoE while being set in a lore friendly environment. It has several interactable features to keep you entertained and aims to keep each playthrough feeling fresh. Developed for experienced players and tested by experienced players for over half a year, the map offers an better than official grade polish on visuals, gameplay and optimization. It fully supports all gamemodes that are in the game (Survival with Stand Your Ground, Endless and even Versus). If you do find any bugs, please report it in the bug thread for fast fixes

Features
  • Dynamic Lights similar to Tragic Kingdom
    Experience a desolated Horzine facility bathed in darkness only illuminatated by the aftermath of the battles that took place there and the remaining emergency systems. If you venture into the facility you can activate the generators to unveil a technologically advanced and expansive bunker.

    Ever wish the nightvision was useful and looked good, well look no further than this map. The darkness on this map is not only navigable with the lights off but is also complemented by the nightvision of the game!



  • Working Firing Range and Combat Simulator
    Ever wish you could use the ones that were present in Outpost? Well now you can! Enable the power and test your accuracy!

    And yes you heard it, a fully working combat simulation. Test your accuracy, reflexes and speed - If you record your attempts and times in this thread, I'll put the top results in the map in following updates!

  • 30 Handheld Hologram Emitter Collectibles
    A unique twist on the usual collectibles, if you manage to find one, shoot it and activate its little hologram!

  • Over 300 new assets
    With a total of 134 new meshes and 171 new materials, the map provides players with a new, unique and professionally polished looking environment to kill Zeds in!

I recommend checking out my following Gamemode Extended Weeklies that complements the map nicely. This mod adds several new weeklies such as husks that fire rockets, a mode with no trader that requires you to scavenge for weapons and ammo, 'Classic' KF1 mode and a bunch more.

Story
This map is set a couple of weeks before the events of Biolapse

After many successful deployments to overrun Horzine facilities around the globe, our Intel has finally been able to piece together some key information; the location of a purposely hidden facility in the [REDACTED] deep jungle.

We believe the Patriarch scrubbed records of this outpost once the initial outbreak happened to hide its importance. It is currently believed, based on the little information we have, that this was a secluded outpost that monitored and tracked all Horzine facilities worldwide. Gaining access to the premises may hold the key to the Patriarch's possible location and his base of operations.

Breach and secure the desolated facility. Eliminate all Zed outbreaks on the premises. It is critical that you take hold of this outpost, it may be our only shot in locating the Patriarch and stopping this nightmare.

I love the detail where the target practice and the killhouse segments are actually usable when you turn on the generator

If I remember, TWI removed these details on their version

Holy shit this map captures the vibe and aesthetics of the game better than any other map. I don't even think that Tripwire (and especially Saber) understand the artstyle that it was originally going for.

The only improvement they made was the dropdown to the training course from the corridor to the firing range, since it opens up more space for kiting. Everything else is a complete 180 from the original, and not for the better.

To keep it short, TW's version of this map has these issues:

* Tons of random objects placed around the map that clutter much of the movable
space/sightlines, which makes kiting a nightmare and allows for cheap zed spawns.

* Extra zed spawns that punish holding areas, essentially it screws you over regardles which playstyle you choose.

* The visual design is a mess, tons of fog even inside the bunker which is out of place and the skybox + lighting makes it hard to distinguish if it's day or night. It also has the side-effect of making the generator pointless.

* Moving the generator button to a less convenient spot.

It's truly a shame to see your map butchered the way it was. Hopefully, TWI gets their heads out of their bottoms and roll back these awful changes. Cheers.
