I was very mixed on the first one. Specifically with the writing, pacing and side-content. But with this one it's a night and day difference.

Apart from world intel feeling like a bit of a chore at times, (which is something you can largely ignore anyway) it was an absolute blast on all fronts start to finish. It even got me on board on the BIG BIG change that was introduced at the end of the first one, which was something I was very much against back then.

Hopefully they'll stick the landing in part 3, and all the confusing new stuff they've introduced fully clicks into place and justifies itself.
