This game is a lot of fun and extremely satisfying to play. However, it is HORRIBLY optimized and the response of "lmao just use frame gen" is unacceptable. Also, the devs saying it's as polished as it can be is EXTREMELY depressing. If we can get these performance issues out of the way, this is an early GOTY contender. However, the game's current state can only be described as "unfortunate."

Oh, also: The story stuff is a step back from Rise. We're back to not being able to do story quests in coop without jumping through some idiotic hoops, which was one World feature I was happy to say goodbye to. Also, said story missions are ENTIRELY too much following NPCs and NOWHERE NEAR enough hunting monsters. ALSO, this game is an arm twister. If you're escorting someone and see a gathering node you want, you better hope that ♥♥♥♥ is RIGHT NEXT to Dorkus Magoo because he's got to get to his date with his fake out-of-state girlfriend and will pull on your invisible leash HARD to make it happen. I HATE IT when "open world" games tether you to an NPC (who is SUPER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SLOW, by the way) and don't let you actually explore in your exploration game until the quest is complete.

This game twists your arm entirely too much. I can't get into how and why without spoiling massive chunks of the story so I'm not going to in case you ignore me and pick this up anyway. I'll just say this: If this is your typical "can't miss" console game, then the gulf between pc and console is much larger than I previously thought.

On a non-story related note, this game caters to cowards. I don't mean this in a "the game punishes you for engaging with its' own stealth mechanics" way, even though it does. When you inevitably screw up one of the many poorly designed combat encounters while traveling around the overworld, the game simply despawns the enemies for you. You don't get the runback, you just have to hold the L for the rest of your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life. Absolute cowardice, which is strange considering the subject material of this game.

Update: I finished the game. The second half of the story is legitimately great and I'm not going to spoil it here. The cinematography is legitimately great (when they aren't using generic animations for the cutscenes) and If it was a miniseries I would recommend this story to everyone I know. Problem is, this is a video game and you have to wade through an awful lot of open world ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to get to the good stuff.

A solid RPG. Old school presentation with (relatively) modern system sensibilities. Much less frustrating than the old Amiga RPGs it's channeling. However, not gonna lie: The story REALLY falls apart in the last couple hours. Definitely worth the fifteen USD, though.

Boy howdy, do people care about the lore of this game! Do NOT ask how to unlock the Tau or you WILL be told to kill yourself in several different languages.

Some very satisfying combat and sound design sets this game apart from other Left 4 Dead-likes. It's also got persistent progression. I'm enjoying this game a lot.

Not gonna lie, I thought my days of playing "left or right" with a digital ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ were behind me. But in order to get one of these cheevos, I had to raise a low-tide tamagotchi to adulthood. Five times. Guess what. Tamagotchi still suck.

I enjoy everything else about this game, even when it's purposely trying to piss me off by not giving me a pelican eel roe NO MATTER HOW MANY I CAPTURE. It's a nice blend of capitalism sim and exploration with a strong OST and a nice visual style. I actually wish there were more ways to pass time (as in, "ways to get the ingame clock to advance") because I found myself using the "waste time" button a little too much near the end. Also, let me teach my jobbers how to dive too. I'd love to send them after specific fish and a man can only use so much tumeric in his cooking.

This game makes my brain worm dance and games that make brain worms dance are about to become A LOT more popular here in the States.

"Talk to Eddie."

For the non-insiders, the game is still a poorly optimized bugfest two years after release. Don't bother.

Ban Wazzler. Obvious cheater. Plays like he has 20+ years of experience when the game just came out this week.
