Dear good, heavenly lord.
This game will be my doom. I wish to stop playing it, and yet, it keeps bringing me back for more pain, suffering and the raw, incomprehensible feeling of adrenaline, joy and finally success as a result of obliterating everything that stands on my way.
This game is a true masterpiece of its genre, the reason why roguelikes have become so popular. It is a perfect combination of randomly generated scenarios and actively giving the player a huge amount of choices to make in order to make or break a run through poor Isaac's delirious, conflicted and overly-imaginative mind. I cannot express how satisfying it is to come back from what appeared to be a lost cause of a run with just wits, extense game knowledge and intelligent decision making.
Another thing I find particularly enjoyable is the unlocks system. Oh, my goodness gracious, the unlocks. Trailers for this game constantly remind you that there's over 600 items and secrets to unlock, and it's very much true. The amount of content in this game is astonishing. Even if you just have the base game, the number of stuff you unlock is insane. New levels, new items, new consumables, brand new types of health, characters, rooms, and much more. Hell, if you get bored of the base game and its DLCs, then you could always go to the Workshop and submerge yourself into what is, in my own personal opinion, one of the biggest, most dedicated and active modding scenes in recent years. Repentance is a DLC which is essentially Antibirth - a TBOI: Rebirth mod - made official with a ton of new content shipped besides it!
So, are you getting bored of the vanilla content? Have some Fiend Folio or Epiphany. You want a break from Ridiculon's excellent soundtrack? There's literally more than 8 fan-made soundtrack mods for you to use. Do you feel the game's visuals could improve in a certain way? There's probably a mod that changes sprites, layouts or level effects to make your experience more enjoyable. The TBOI's community is truly a blessing.
Now, I do understand the game, along with all its DLCs could be considered as expensive. But if you like this type of game, then I say, go for it. It is worth every one of those hard earned pennies, nickels and dimes, even though a T. Lost run could make you want to become back your money.
Anyways, I could keep blabbing about how much I adore this game, its setting, its topics, its artstyle and more, but really, I would just end up going in circles, praising this game as one of the greatests of all time, because, well, it is.
Now then, do I recommend The Binding of Isaac? Well, I'll be damned, of course I do! I constantly recommend it to my friends, even though they believe me to be insane for liking a game with literal giant amounts of crap trying to murder you!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I will continue to try and get those three Dead Gods.
