ALTERNATIVE AND OPTIONAL MODS
ALTERNATIVE MODS
Some mods in the Core Collection have alternatives. Feel free to subscribe to alternative mods, if you like them more. However, make sure to unsubscribe from the similar mod from the Core Collection, as it will be either incompatible or redundant.

CAMERA MOD ALTERNATIVES - CHOOSE ONE

OVERWATCH ALL MOD ALTERNATIVES - CHOOSE ONE
  • Overwatch All/Others WotC - used by default. Simple, reliable, configurable. Supports mod-added Ovewatch-like abilities, if configured for it. Cost Based Ability Colors mod already contains compatibility configuration for it. Core Collection Meta Mod includes a few tweaks and fixes for this mod.
  • Smart Overwatch All - uses a different method of putting soldiers on Overwatch. Makes soldiers Reload before entering Overwatch, if their ammo is not full and they have spare actions available. Not compatible with custom Overwatch-like abilities in principle.

SCROLLBAR MOD ALTERNATIVES - CHOOSE ONE

HEALTH BAR MOD ALTERNATIVES - CHOOSE ONE
  • [WOTC] Show Health Values - used by default. Shows the HP numbers and nothing else. Functional, unobtrusive.
  • [WOTC] Unit Flag Extended - displays unit stats such as Aim and Damage above the HP bar. Somewhat redundant with Yet Another F1 mod, clutters the UI, but does provide lots of info at a glance. Very customizable.
  • Tactical Information Overhaul [WOTC] - same as above, but also replaces the appearance of the health bar itself.

OPTIONAL MODS
These mods work fine with the Core Collection, but for various reasons they have not been included into the collection itself.

OPTIONAL MODS FOR DLCS

OPTIONAL MODS FOR SPECIFIC GAMEPLAY STYLES
  • [WOTC] Iridar's Appearance Manager - very useful if you spend a lot of time in Character Pool or customizing soldier appearance.
  • Misclick Confirm WOTC or [WOTC] Missclick Protection - makes it harder to accidentally leave your soldiers out of cover.
  • [WOTC] Force Level Display - can be useful to hardcore tryhard players, but arguably gives away too much information about the game's inner working to the player.
  • [WOTC] Automatic Reload by Iridar - reduces the strain on the brain by reloading soldiers' weapons automatically if they take turn-ending actions with some action points remaining.
  • [WOTC] Tactical UI Kill Counter Redux - shows the number of killed and active enemies. Also shows the number of remaining enemies if you have Shadow Chamber constructed. Can be useful for those who want to tryhard, but can be distracting for a regular player, making them rely on numbers instead of looking at the actual game world.

OPTIONAL MODS FOR PERSONAL PREFERENCE

OPTIONAL MODS FOR A POWERFUL PC

OPTIONAL MODS FOR CUSTOMIZING THE GAME

OPTIONAL MODS THAT REQUIRE OTHER MODS TO BE USEFUL

@Iridar I use Tactical Information Overhaul. It deserves a mention here I think unless the mod does something bad that I am not aware of. Using this mod makes the other mods for health bar obsolete.

Sure, nobody brought it up before / suggested it for the Core Colletion, so it wasn't here already. I'll add it as an alternative.

You should definitely include a link to your "plugin" expanded text mod collection here! If i wasn't curious and nosing through the comments as well, I would've missed it. https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2270881676

Alternative for Upcoming Events with more functionality; highly configurable:
https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1184714073

Also, Purifier Grenades Fix has a new version (by the same author) that arguably handles the issue better, so you may want to outright replace it in the main list:
https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2275392196

Thank you btw. I had my doubts (personal taste being what it is), but it really is a "Core Collection". I ended up installing all of them except a handful, and only because I'm using alternatives for those.

In the future please use the google form for suggestions like these.

I'm aware of the [WOTC] Incendiary Grenade Damage Fix +, it's already been suggested many times. In my opinion it is pointless and worse than the previous one.

As for [WotC] RW Better Upcoming Events Side List, I don't want to spend time even on looking at anything by krumiro.

Ah, of course. Should have read the description again before making suggestions. That's my bad.

Anything I should know about krumiro's mods (bad modding practices etc.)? Or is it something personal? Asking from an end user perspective.

Why is [WOTC] Incendiary Grenade Damage Fix + worse than [WOTC] Purifier Grenades Fix? Based on the description it is objectively better.

There are three mods that accomplish the same thing in marginally different ways. In order of release dates:

[WOTC] Incendiary Grenade Damage Fix
https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1165000815
Buffs the Incendiary Grenade for both XCOM and Purifiers.

[WOTC] Purifier Grenades Fix
https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1371195713
Buffs the Incendiary Grenade for XCOM, creates a new, weaker grenade for Purifiers.

[WOTC] Incendiary Grenade Damage Fix +
https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2275392196
Changes the Incendiary Grenade to do different damage depending on who is using it.

In my opinion as a modmaker with a lot of experience, "[WOTC] Purifier Grenades Fix" offers the best solution, though in 99.9% of cases it's completely irrelevant which one you pick. I'm not aware of any combination of mods where one would be preferable over the other.
