thanks

This thing is great for high gravity environments. While the Lady bug is my go to for most planets, those with high environments make drill mining a nightmare. This however removes the headache.

I spawned this into creative and it is FANTASTIC!
I play with a friend so i added a seat and rebuilt the front of the boom to hold 2 drills and a downward aimed spotlight.
just awesome.

Man, this thing looks awkward... but damn is it awesome to use! Thanks!
Xcetaura 23 Jan, 2018 @ 2:11am
This is awesome.

EDIT: Nevermind didn't read the instructions. Was supposed to face the fridge to summon drone

@MANA: I had a similar situation, but the issue I found was not with the drill attachment or the ore scanner. I've found that, even in third person view, some terrains do not allow the ore outlines to show through, snow is really bad. When you couple the brighter terrain with light, the outlines all but diminish. I've had to get creative by turning off the lights, positioning the craft so it casts a shadow, and then slowly hovering to see the outlines. So if you're drilling in the snow, on a sunny day, try to find a way to cast a shadow over the ore area, or use your drone to drill an "outline" of the ore area.

@Trig: I don't think this is any issue related to the craft or the drill setup. I think this is a game mechanic issue that isn't allowing certain colors or transparencies to show through.
MANA 20 Nov, 2017 @ 9:25pm
Tried removing and replacing fixed drill. Cheers mate.
Trig  [author] 20 Nov, 2017 @ 9:01pm
Hrm, not sure why it isn't working, the only thing I can think to try is taking the fixed drill off and putting it back on. It's possible they've messed up the ore scanner HV functionality, or there's something bugged.

I'll do some more testing with it next time I'm in a survival world
MANA 20 Nov, 2017 @ 8:49pm
Only subscribed today. Fixed drill is in 1st slot. Haven't added anything to it. Impressive machine if i can get it to work.
Trig  [author] 20 Nov, 2017 @ 8:03pm
Do you have the updated version with the fixed drill on it? It seems that for the ore scanner to work on an HV it has to have a regular fixed drill module on it, and it has to be in the first slot on the hotbar.
If you have the version before I added a fixed / regular drill try sticking one on it (anywhere should work). Also don't add gatling guns, they can mess it up also (the fixed/forward pointing version, turrets should be fine)
MANA 20 Nov, 2017 @ 7:32pm
Not getting ore indicators at all. Have equipped ore scanner. Even tried putting scanner in harvest box.
Lohke 18 Nov, 2017 @ 7:18pm
Fantastic creation. I tested this out this evening, even trying to drill under the supports to unlevel it. I was not successful! Kudos to you on another fine creation. I'm really enjoying your work.

The devs are exploring the possibility of allowing 'automatic' drill turrets. If that ever becomes a thing, a vessel like this could still prove useful.
shadrays 30 Jul, 2017 @ 7:43pm
For some reason I'm losing all my oxygen, filled the tank, after a while it all drained off even tho I had the oxy shut down in the CP (user error most likely lol)...even still this is one of the best drill rigs I've used, thanks for the work, I hope to try some of your other rigs soon.
Trig  [author] 22 Jun, 2017 @ 4:50pm
Thanks :), yeah turret range could be better - I had experimented with having the drill 2 blocks lower, but then your field of view in turret view is pretty bad, and the depth it would dig wasn't much better, as well as the drill blocking first person view.
Amil 22 Jun, 2017 @ 4:34pm
Awesome design, I love it. Sadly with the turret range nerfed to hell it is not as useful as I'd love it to be. I'm keeping this sub'd in the hopes they're up the mining turret range! :steamhappy:

E4st: Should be able to jump in the ship, turn on the power, and then jump into the Drill Turret via the P menu and good to go as long as the ship has power. It's a pretty straightforward setup. Make sure you have power. :)
Trig  [author] 16 Jun, 2017 @ 11:55am
hrm not sure, be sure drill is set to on before you access it. could also be a grouping bug, maybe remove drill from its device group to see if that makes a difference. If all that doesnt help try replacing drill by picking it up with multitool and re-adding it
Dog Grill 16 Jun, 2017 @ 11:43am
Iam struggleing to use this thing, for some reason the drill isnt working. Any Idea? Maybe outdated allready .. idk ... i added you as a friend. I hope you can help me out.
Utildayael 16 Jun, 2017 @ 6:18am
Nice! I was happily surprised when I got it done my center of mass is actually right in front of the cockpit. :)

But ya that design I don't get caught on trees or rocks as much either. Wish we could do harvest modules at 45°
Trig  [author] 15 Jun, 2017 @ 7:22pm
ooh that's pretty cool, can see how it would be much trickier to get it in a hole

i've got plans to put together a scorpion "forktail" with 2 drills spaced apart and across from each other to gain much better land coverage and maybe eliminate or seriously shortening the forward arms by putting all the weight in the back to counter the drill arms, but right now i'm sidetracked with this silly space bus SV i've been workin on
Utildayael 15 Jun, 2017 @ 7:08pm
Thought you might enjoy this... v0.01 of revamp based heavily on your design. I didn't like the forks in the front as they got caught on trees or the HV simply was prone to falling into holes if you weren't careful with the drill turret.

I stole the circle idea from your drill barge. :o

It's not published on Steam yet and may never be. I'll let you know if I ever do tho. :)
LordTeague 14 Jun, 2017 @ 5:46am
Not a bad drill turret placement. The advanced version of my Lunar Drill and my Lunar Sapper both feature a Drill Turret placed on the underside, sunken 1 block into the vehicle. For clearing out those pesky ore spikes that often crop up when you're mining ore viens. I think I might put the Lunar Sapper up on the workshop today.
Utildayael 12 Jun, 2017 @ 4:07pm
If I make the "O" ring mod I definately will sir. Also that land shark is SICK. :)
Starfire273 12 Jun, 2017 @ 11:43am
Nice one, why didnt I think of such a concept? Well done!
Trig  [author] 12 Jun, 2017 @ 9:49am
For anyone interested in a heavily armed, multi-person mining vessel with a similar, possibly even bettter, drill turret setup check this vessel I've just completed: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=945345411

Additinally, feel free to make modifications to this auger machine, just if you publish it credit me and possibly link here.
ei8htx 11 Jun, 2017 @ 9:02pm
Genius!
Utildayael 11 Jun, 2017 @ 8:02pm
I was kind of thinking of making a modified version with a "ring" in the front that goes around the hole much like your drill barge to help with the "front fork fell into the hole" issue..
Trig  [author] 11 Jun, 2017 @ 6:04pm
Thanks, yeah this thing became much more popular than I originally thought it would. Only complaint I have is the cab doesn't put you back in the interior when you exit it, after entering it from interior. Have ideas about building a version with an open seat cockpit and glass around it.
Utildayael 11 Jun, 2017 @ 4:23pm
Works great! Good work. :)
