Description
1 person Drill turret mining hover vessel.

[not updated further than alpha 8. No longer updating this - I've made a new model, the MK2C to replace it (in alpha 10.6) Available here: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1904770931 . Leaving this one up since it was basically the first thing I made that became quite popular, and still may have some use in non- mass/volume or cpu games, or for inspiration in other builds. Feel free to modify and repost or whatever.]

Alpha 8.2 Update:
Added Detector
Moved the fixed drill, it's now built into the main drill arm. (this drill makes the player-carried ore scanner work with the subsurface rock type ores)
Added a control panel signal for the running lights (the small orange lights)
Moved some o2 tanks and added one more.
Removed LCD's to eliminate plastic cost
Rextexured & painted a good bit of the exterior
Updated workshop pics
No changes to functionality or movement.

Includes a mobile constructor so on the go refining possible. Has 2 minigun turrets for defense.

Using the drill requires accessing control panel (P key), finding it in devices (should be at the top), then selecting it and hitting access. (can also double click the drill in control panel)

Req level: 15
Alpha 8 Materials (ingots):
Iron - 388
Copper - 270
Silicon - 244
Erestrum - 18
Zascosium - 18
Neodymium - 10
Sathium - 4
Cobalt - 4

(rare material costs are from the turret)

Single downward facing drill turret, with spotlight and 3 lights - adjust intensity as needed. Two light groups on custom switches, one with 3 forward facing spotlights for driving around, and one for illuminating the ground below the drill. (Front Spotlights and Drilling Lights).

Has a small pressurized interior section with: fridge, oxygen station, cargo boxes, ammo box, harvest box, constructor. This can be used as a safe area to operate the player drone mining out areas that the main drill couldn't. To launch drone, open the door, face the fridge, and hit F5 (drone comes out behind and above player). There's enough space to add a passenger seat here if you're working with a partner.

While drilling it works best to set it on the ground, and avoid digging under the forward hover engine sections. Item grouping is setup to shut off thrusters in Custom1 and hovers in Custom 2. For a larger deposit moving it around may be necessary to reach ore from a different angle. If it does get partially stuck in a hole hitting o to force it to level, while moving away from the hole, may get it unstuck.

Fuel filling access is under the shutters on the rear. Has 4 fuel tanks and 1 generator.

Will fit through the smallest hangar door, lower hover height under 1m.

All blocks are standard steel to keep costs and weight down; feel free to upgrade to hardened. If operating on a planet/moon with a high prescence of tougher drones, upgrading the turrets may be a good idea.

I now have a multi-person 4-turret version of this here: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1201949206

This thing is great for high gravity environments. While the Lady bug is my go to for most planets, those with high environments make drill mining a nightmare. This however removes the headache.

I spawned this into creative and it is FANTASTIC!
I play with a friend so i added a seat and rebuilt the front of the boom to hold 2 drills and a downward aimed spotlight.
just awesome.

EDIT: Nevermind didn't read the instructions. Was supposed to face the fridge to summon drone

@MANA: I had a similar situation, but the issue I found was not with the drill attachment or the ore scanner. I've found that, even in third person view, some terrains do not allow the ore outlines to show through, snow is really bad. When you couple the brighter terrain with light, the outlines all but diminish. I've had to get creative by turning off the lights, positioning the craft so it casts a shadow, and then slowly hovering to see the outlines. So if you're drilling in the snow, on a sunny day, try to find a way to cast a shadow over the ore area, or use your drone to drill an "outline" of the ore area.

@Trig: I don't think this is any issue related to the craft or the drill setup. I think this is a game mechanic issue that isn't allowing certain colors or transparencies to show through.

Tried removing and replacing fixed drill. Cheers mate.

Hrm, not sure why it isn't working, the only thing I can think to try is taking the fixed drill off and putting it back on. It's possible they've messed up the ore scanner HV functionality, or there's something bugged.

I'll do some more testing with it next time I'm in a survival world
