The changes basically tells the game how many levels you have to get to gain one talent point. So you will start getting more points when you activate it, but it won't add points for previous levels

Do you need to start a new game for this mod to work? Added it to an existing game but I didn't have any extra talent points, would I need to hit a talent level up for it to work out retroactively how many talent points I'd need?

Yep, you were right. The first extra point was coming at lvl 4. Fixed it, now you should get the first extra at lvl 3, and every 3rd level after that.

i was able to test it again at lvl 2 -> 3 with only this mod active, and it still didn't give me a talent point.

the only other mod that has anything to do with talent points is the source mastery talent. it's a talent that you can learn from a book while still taking a talent point away. but i have tried moving the load order so this one loads after that one.

Did you test with only this mod or do you have any other mod active that might interfere with talent point gain?

i think this mod is broken. i haven't done extensive testing, btu as far as i can tell, it breaks talent points all together. i tested it at lvl 2 -> 3 where you're supposed to get a talent point. but i didnt with this mod
