The Dark Promise

Description
The party is given a strange letter surrounded in mystery. A promise of gold and strange details of the letter guide the party to starting their journey. The simple task before them quickly turns into the party embarking on an adventure that turns into one of the craziest experiences of their lives.

*********************************************************************************
The Dark Promise is a self made story and world using the Solasta engine and Dungeons and Dragons lore. I tried to add subtle hints on how to progress the story, but the game is designed to allow the player to chose. The first half of the game tries to allow a linear growth and story for the player to follow, but the second part of the game is open and the player is welcome to do things in any order they please. If something feels too difficult, perhaps try another quest elsewhere first. Please save often.

################################
Play time: 15-30 hours (Depends on how many optional quests you try)
Level progression: 1-Max
Party size: 4
Custom weapons: yes
Locations: 43
Quests: 31
Optional Guilds: Hunter, Magi, Warrior, Warlock, Thieves, Assassin.
Secret legendary weapon quests for almost any type of weapon the party wants.
################################

Note: There are challenges in the game that will require keys to open doors if the trial is failed. Be careful selling keys, or you can hard-stuck your characters if you lose the key somehow.

Planned improvements:
More quests may be added to various locations if I can think of something creative and get it working.
More skill checks to make non-combat related skills useful.

Developer Notes:

I think this adventure can be enjoyed with a single player with 4 characters or if you have friends to play with you, it can be fun to play together. This initial build is not meant to be extremely difficult, but can be challenging at times. A balanced party is recommended but I am not here to tell you how to have fun. I personally played through it with a team of: Fighter - Defensive, Rogue - Thief, Ranger - Dual weapon, Bard - Healer. There are skill checks for as much as I could cram in or figure out. I do apologize for poor spelling or grammar issues as a lot of it is written off the cuff and at times late at night. Please feel free to give any feedback, good or bad and let me know if there are any game breaking bugs. I do apologize if that does happen. I know it can really ruin the experience. I did my best to make sure it is working as well as possible. I will keep polishing the game up and push out updates when I can. Enjoy!

Yes, there should have been a wizard there by the name of Balthazar. He drops a gem called the ocean key that should open that locked door. Solasta has a bug sometimes where characters wont open a door with a key they are holding. Please double check manually the inventory of your characters for a blue gem called the ocean key. It may still be on the ground where the wizard died. If you could check your completed quests, see if there is one called kill Bathazar. That will confirm to me that you are at the spot I am refering too. You can also check your list of monsters and look for Balthazar to confirm you killed him. Sorry for the trouble.

The main quest directs me to the Northeast Tower, where I work my way up to level 3, which looks like swamp. There is a big fight not far from the entry in a large square field. A door at the southwest corner appears to lead to level 4 but I can't open it. I've covered all the lower levels and have some keys, but none of them works. I've scanned all the walls for buttons and crawl holes and found none. The closest thing to a boss was a Wight Lord, as I recall, but there was nothing special in the drop. No statues anywhere.

@charles_watkins Hey Charles, is there a boss fight on the floor you are referencing? The one after you click on the statues? The boss is a wizard type character. If so, the boss drops a key that opens the door that would be located to the left or west of the boss fight area. If not, let me know and I will be happy to help.

Need a hint. On the third level of the tower (swamp) there's a door in the southeast part of the battle area that I can't open. Looks like I need to get through to reach level 4.

@Lepersmythe Thank you so much! I agree I need to adjust a few places and fix the difficulty and rewards. It has just been kind of a lot for one person to manage. My biggest goal was to get a working version out that after someone finished it, they did not feel like they just wasted a large period of time. Maybe in a few years if you get the urge to play again I will have a much better version for you to try. Glad you liked it as much as you did, thank you for your feedback.

I have finished all the quests that were available to me. This was fun.

I never did find a green stone or a certain person who suggested that I find them in town.

There were a few spots where the reward for failure was better than the reward for success in terms of experience and there were a couple of fights that I assume were meant to be unwinnable, but could be beaten with proper preparation and a completely cowardly approach.

@Lepersmythe Thank you for that, I am not sure how I messed that up but I found the issue and corrected it for the blue quest, I think it will work for you now.

The white stone quest worked perfectly for me after your fix. The black stone quest also worked perfectly.

I tried to do the blue stone quest, but the map didn't load and I got this error: "The target entrance index is invalid: 1"

@Lepersmythe Thank you so much for letting me know! I replicated the state of the game and was able to recreate the game crash. I found the issue and made some changes to the logic. The quest worked for me in my testing. I think it may actually fix for you if you load with the newest version. I apologize if it does not!

The white stone guy still crashes the game if you talk to him after having already found the first white stone. I cannot yet comment on any of the other stone quests.
