Description
About
This is a tiny quest where you travel to a lone house inhabited by an equally lonely outcast and... have a chat with them. Yes! Thanks to the power of amazing Custom Quest Framework by HaiLuan even an complete xml noob like me can make an actual dialog in Rimworld. At first I wanted to add a few lines to the downed refugee quest, but the idea kept on growing.

More about
This is also my love letter to the Rimworld modders. I have thousands of hours in this game and I feel like there's still more to uncover and experience here. It wouldn't be possible without the wonderful stuff you guys created, all those mods that take RW to another level. And so mods are part of the story in this quest. They originate from projects created by modders alter-egos and are manifested on the planet by unpredictable Shifts. The outcast you're going to meet had to deal with the consequences of a certain well known project beginning with Z.

Disclaimer
Alter-egos I mentioned above will remain in the background of my storyline. It would be really awkward/ wrong to name characters after real people I don't personally know. Of course, if you run across your name in this mod and you dislike the way I handled it let me know and I'll take it out ASAP. And as much as I'd like to mention every single mod out there, it's simply impossible. Custom Quests are (is:P) about stories, so the story must come first.

Finally about
On it's own, this quest should fire only once per game. I think it would be silly to get spammed by something that's meant to be more or less unique. If you want to experience it again, you can easily generate it by going into debug actions > generate quest > CQ_Outcasts_ZDreamer.

Compatibility/ Issues
  • this mod requires Erin's Decorations and Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Props and Decor because of two reasons: they are great and vanilla without DLCs feels dreadfully empty. Also Erin's candle is essential for any playthrough;
  • you CAN add this mod mid-game - you just need to accept spawning of an additional faction (thanks to Orion's faction discovery integrated into VEF);
  • CQ: Outcasts is pure xml and should be compatible with everything that doesn't conflict with Custom Quest Framework;
  • dialog window slider doesn't slide back up when you pick a next option. If the next window has a lot of text, you'll have to slide it up manually;
  • because of strageness, outcasts might generate as relatives of arriving pawns. RIMMSqoL and Character Editor are great for removing unwanted relations;
  • if you spot any mistakes let me know. I read this stuff over and over again, but I'm sure something slid under the radar. English is not my first language and some bits might feel off. Again, let me know :)

Psst! Here is a pro-tip: you DO NOT need to create Xenotype bloat to give each race of Fungi their Genes.As of two or three months ago, the Humanoid Alien Races Mod now supports Pawns spawning as Base Liners with custom Genes.

Far to many HAR Races have a Xenotype to accommodate for needed Genes when there is a native feature already included. It's all on the HAR Mod's Github Repository!

Yes, I just did a quick test and it will run without it. You will get loads of red errrors in the main menu but that's it.

If I don't have that VFE Props Bloat Mod, will this one still run? The dialog system looks absolutely incredible.
