Intro
Let's face it, Orbs of alchemy are hard to find!
It's not like after you read this guide or follow my tips that you'll drown in orbs.

No, sadly not.

But, I will be telling you what missions to play, what depths you can find them in etc.
So, I hope this will help you out on your orb hunt!
(The stars in the "what missions to play" sections display my personal experience with those missions, 3 stars meaning very good for orb farming, 1 star meaning not so good for orb farming).

Now before you continue on reading, keep in mind that playing missions on ELITE DIFFICULTY will increase your chance in finding orbs.

So, play every mission you do on elite, and if you're lucky enough... you might end up like me! :D

meanwhile, axes of evil, with maybe asian loading times and a pulsar, all lets you check 6 boxes in 45 seconds flat. some of my attempts out of the 50 test was on 40 secs, some are 50, but rarely worse. Sometimes it makes you run to the end of the level, but when that happens, it's 2:50 or 3 minutes and you don't actually get any forced fights or arena in the level. The layout is more fixed. and when you're forced to pick up an orb on the far end, you can check an extra +4 boxes in the meantime. so it's just better. guaranteed peek at 12 boxes on 1:30, which you can only achieve in sewer stash very rarely.

@Dusk I just timed it the other day, between Sewer Stash and Axes of Evil. you're right, Axes of Evil is just more consistently faster by most metrics.

Sewer Stash sometimes randomly generates a forced fight or two. Even with Swift Steps II in both cases (movement speed medium, sprite perk) and trying to speedrun the level, only opening boxes you see and only fighting when forced, Sewer Stash attempts are 2min 30 secs avg for me. On bad RNG of two forced fights it might take 3:30, on good RNG maybe 1:30. Boxes seem to median out at 9, but when it's bad you just get 5. Although out of 50 runs around 3 attempts had 15 or 18.

decent guide, but for 4* orbs (Sewer Stash), I had to open up the wiki to realize that the notes section specify that orb farming is best done on first floor.
How I play it now is definitely running through the level, breaking treasure boxes I see, and only fighting when forced, and then restarting upon seeing the elevator on the minimap. definitely efficient.

now I wonder about 3* orbs, because the mission you listed (Rise or Fall) seems to have a pathetic amount of treasure boxes when I passed by it the first time around... It's sad if there really is no better way to farm it..

anyone know what orbs are found in each operation crimson hammer tier?

Just farm Crowns and get energy to buy orbs, is more quickly than try to get those 0.0005% chance to get orbs.

Speedrunning RTs is way more orb profitable and time efficient, than Royal Palace, imho

I remeber when spiral knights didnt have orbs and forge crystals so the game wasn't impossible to craft anything
