Description
Betabound is a vanilla+ base-game enhancement mod which adds tons of content consistent with the Starbound vision throughout the entire game-- from beginning to end! Although Betabound certainly has a strong presence throughout the game, it is not an overhaul mod and will never outright replace content from Starbound, allowing it to fit into any mod list! Betabound is present, but not overwhelming.

From the smallest quality of life changes to brand-new content, Betabound is a treasure trove of Starbound content!

Techs! A new tech slot, and new techs for all slots!
Quests! Visit the Outpost and help those in need!
Ships! Enhance your ship's stats by crafting! More fuel storage, faster non-FTL travel, and reduced fuel costs!
New items! Weapons, medicine, tools, food, crops, clothes, objects, throwables, and more!
Biomes! New biomes above and over-ground.
Crafting! New crafting stations for new item types, new resources for old crafting stations!
Structures & Dungeons! New buildings to find!
Decorations! New blocks and furniture to find or craft!

As of May 2025, Betabound currently adds/enables:
• 176 Weapons (This count excludes racial variants)
• 123 Food Items/Consumables
• 98 Objects
• 64 Tools/Equipment
• 61 Miscellaneous items
• 58 Codices/Lore Items (Adjusted to not contradict vanilla lore)
• 52 Techs
• 42 Clothing Items
• 39 Blocks/Platforms
• 25 Quests
• 19 Throwable Items
• 6 Biomes
• 12 Friendly NPCs
• 19 Hostile NPCs

[Q] Other mods focus on beta content. Why should I use Betabound?
[A] Betabound asks and answers "What would it look like if beta content got finished?" Some functionality required for some beta content no longer exists in modern Starbound- Betabound goes the extra mile and recreates the missing functionality and supplies its own descriptions, images, and whatever else was missing from the original beta!

[Q] Is this just improved versions of beta content?
[A] No! Betabound has original content, tweaks to vanilla content, adds recreations of alpha content, and enables unused vanilla content!

[Q] Does Betabound replace/remove XYZ?
[A] No. Betabound and vanilla content are seamlessly integrated with each other, offering an experience that any Starbound player can enjoy regardless if they've played the original beta.

[Q] Can I use (mod) with this mod?
[A] Yes! Betabound is highly compatible with most mods and has built-in integration patches for others.

[Q] How do I get steel bars, a processor, and a peanut butter trap?
[A] The progression guide includes information on how to get all of these!

Oh it seems that the smaller mine entrance is still in the base game as a rare variant of the normal mine entrance, sorry about the confusion. I thought the small one got removed just like all the other cool stuff from older versions of the game.
Time_pug 7 Dec @ 1:58pm
The entrance is different, its small and goes straight down instead of first going down stairs.

@Time_pug What differences were in the 2016 core fragment mine?

Only a few guns (like 12) use ammo, and ammo is entirely optional even for guns that do use them since the gun will use energy (like normal guns) if you hold shift or do not have ammo

The ammo is basically extra damage or an extra effect, not a limit on how much you can shoot
Time_pug 7 Dec @ 6:21am
Does this change the core fragment mine to the one from 2016? Also is there a way to disable the whole ammo thing for guns?
PrinceJaxonHellsing™ 4 Dec @ 3:24pm
Ok, that actually might be the reason why too.

@PrinceJaxonHellsing™ You jhave some other mod which adds its own steel. Betabound's steel is unlocked by using the molten core from the vanilla Dreadwing quest at an Inventor's Table

I can't seem to make the right steel for the stirring spoon. The steel I can make is completely different, as it is a common version of steel, and the texture/icon is entirely different. How do I get the right steel for the stirring spoon?

@silver Solova Ah ok. Im running betabound with a few other things and I wanted to re-add that kind of weapon back in with another mod I saw, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doubling up on mods. One mod I use Lostbound there's a small faction on those city planets that use undroppable versions as far as im aware so that's why i thought i'd ask before going for another mod

@Marek1shtar I haven't seen or heard of laser guns with bouncing projectiles, but if you mean the little bouncy bluish-white balls that turn into a little electric explosion, Betabound adds that projectile back to grenade launchers! It also adds back in the Alien Laser gun- the purple one, but its laser don't bounce
