Named after both Uranus' outter most moon and the king of fairies from medieval folklore, the Oberon is a ground based Light Hover-Carrier capable of traversing rough terrain at moderate speeds, delivering aircraft around the planet for precision strikes on enemy installations and aircraft. Armed with various turrets on all sides and able to carry 4-8 aircraft, the Oberon is capable of independant and fleet based operations. Small guard rails line both sides of the flight deck and safety "nets" rim the entire carrier to catch any crew who accidentally fall overboard. Flight deck activity can be monitored from the "Bubble" on the deck or from the bridge's two observation windows.

I didn't make a full on Nimitz replica because not only is there already one on the workshop, I wanted something that could be usable in a world without taking up all of the PCU and tanking frames for the average player. It also isn't necessary to have a carrier that big in this instance, the catapult and arresting cable systems fully work with the distance they have. Making it too big would also make it too cumbersom to actually move around well; this current setup can actually go offroad to a decent extent.

Tips:

- Anchor when stopped to avoid drifting
- The catapult is automatic, just drive the aircraft over the landing gear until you get locked in and you see the green indicator light. Apply full thrust and only pull up slightly after clearing the carrier.
- The arresting cables can damage your aircraft if you land faster than 40m/s or if you land off center. You must "catch" the cables with your rear tires, any other part of the aircraft will be damaged by the cables. The cables can be turned off and pushed to the side if you do not wish to use them.
- The DLC blocks add flavor but are not necessary. If you do not have the DLC, you will have an open space where the beds go, and the flight deck "bubble" can be covered up with a blast door block.
- The IFF radar uses Whip's turret based radar to display the location of friendly aircraft also using Whip's script out to 10KM.
- Use the drill next to the anchor when on ice lakes to replenish the hydrogen supply
- When moving, make sure all aircraft are "tied down" using the 4 docks in the hangar or create a simple tie down on any loose vehicles using armor blocks and landing gear.

Changelog:

1.1 - Added "Glide Slope Camera" with glide slope guide to the deck Bubble station. The glide slope camera with guide allows anyone in the bubble to observe the incoming aircraft's landing glide slope and give them guidance. See photos for a representation of aircraft on proper glide slope path and how it appears in the guide. The body/nose of the aircraft should stay along the slope of the guide no matter the distance until the aircraft is within 250m of the aircraft and too close for effective assistance.

Hmm, in all my testing (and in the videos) you see you should be floating very nicely and even with a full combat load you should be able to power up. Try not nosing up too much after take off as when fully loaded down your thrust isn't the strongest. Try taking off without any of the armament (Shift + Ctrl + X to "delete" subgrids you're looking at).

No mods, and yes I'm using the F/A-18F. I guess I'm a terrible pilot... :(

56ms is around what you should be getting. Are you using the F/A-18F or some other aircraft? Not all air frames are designed equal and some may not have much lift at all and rely on you always going top speed. Also, are you using any aerodynamic/drag mods, including the water world? Any of those types of mods overwrite digi's aerodynamic wing mod's settings and the wings may not give enough lift.

I'm only getting about 56ms off the launch and I crash into the ice lake

Oh sweet! Thanks!

It doesn't require it, it's spawnable without it. I designed it specifically with non-DLC users in mind so it won't split the carrier or impact anything about it, just leaving a space where the beds and kitchen goes.

Oh... of course it HAS to have the decorative DLC.
