34th Curator's Mod Pack f. Stellaris
This is a carefully curated set of mods, to enrich Stellaris. The goal is to make Stellaris more Stellaris, not to make Stellaris into something else (e.g. Star Trek).

The mods all work together, and they all do work with the current version (as of now, 2.1.2), despite what dire warnings Steam's Stellaris Launcher might give. Don't worry; just check in the Launcher that all mods are enabled, then click the Launch button. Enjoy Stellaris as it ought to be.



To use this mod pack:
  1. Unsubscribe from all your mods
  2. Subscribe to this mod pack
  3. Check that your monitor is at least 1080 pixels height (1920x1080, 1600x1200 or 1920x1200, or larger). It probably is, but some monitors use a pixel height of 900, 720 or even less
  4. If your monitor is at least 1080 pixels in height, then enable all (FN1) the mods in the Steam Stellaris Launcher
  5. If your monitor is less than 1080 pixels, then enable all (FN1) mods except these two: The 1080 mod, and the mod that gives compatibility between the 1080 mod and the Speed Dial mod
Likewise, when I update this mod pack, you'll probably need to unsubscribe to all your mods, then re-subscribe to this pack, then go through the Launcher and make sure all mods shown are enabled.



DLC
I have all the DLC.

I don't know if this mod pack will work for people who don't own all the non-cosmetic DLC (Leviathans, Utopia, Synthetic Dawn, Apocalypse and Distant Stars), for SP games.

However, for MP games, as long as the host owns all the non-cosmetic DLC, everything should work fine.

Either way, you'll never need to own Plantoids or Humanoids, in order to use this mod.



UPDATED 7/Jul 2018, then a few changes 7/Jul and 9/Jul:

  • Removed: "Collective Focus for Hive and Machine Empires" (I didn't really like how it worked)
  • Removed: "Enigmatic Fortress Fix" (no longer required in 2.1)
  • Added: "Loyal Subjects Have Nothing to Fear - Colossus" (I have long wanted to test this mod)
  • Added: "Claims Decay - Dynamic Diplomacy" (I have also long wanted to test this mod)
  • Added (late addition, 7th): "StarterTech 2" (because the creator finally got around to updating it to 2.1.x! Thanks! I've missed this one a lot!)
  • Added (late addition, 9th): "Expanded Starbase Silos" (because I want to have more "filler" Buildings for Starbases, preferably ones that are neither unbalanced nor cost EC/month to maintain)

UPDATED (twice) 23/Jul 2018:
  • Re-Replaced: "Additional Repeating Techs" with "Additional Repeatable Techs" (the ing version has the point cost of the Repeatables scaling very wrong, making for a wonky game. I wrote about it on that mod's page 10 days ago, but no reply. Note that the -able mod makes it a bit harder to add additional +Core Systems, compared to the other one, as it has more Society Repeatables, but I ended up being really put off by the severe wrongness of the cost scaling in -ing - it'll give huge advantage to an empire that sciences hard and so reaches the Repeatables stage faster than the others and becomes able to grab a lot of bonuses extremely fast)
  • Removed: "Bedivere's Repeatable Tech Toolkit Vanilla Edition 2" (this is a very fine mod, but I'm not too happy about having the "gate" function for the vanilla Repeatables but then not for the many Repeatables added by the mod; I've asked the modder to add such a "gate" function, but no luck so far)
  • Added: "T's Small Exhaust Trails" (it sounds neat; I've come to be tired of the huge exhaust trails in Corvette fights)
  • Added: "Gateway Icons - Construction Notification" (this just sounds very useful)
  • Added (Late addition, 23th): "Multiple Crises" (a mod I've used in the past, but which for some reason fell off my subscription list; I imagine it didn't get updated for a long time. It's simple, it does exactly what it says on the tin: Just because one Crisis starts happening, it doesn't prevent one or both of the two others from also triggering, unlike in vanilla)

UPDATED 11/Aug 2018
  • Removed "Wisdom of Age", as there are a few reasons I'm not happy with it, especially in MP games
  • Removed "Tiny Army View". With Army Attachments removed in 2.0, there's not much reason to use this mod, and I think it might screw with the post-2.0 UI
  • Removed "Tiny Spaceport Modules". As of 2.0 this mod is non-functional, and folk seems disinclined to update it
  • Added "CABAL Advisor". Just one more voice pack
  • Added "More Insults", a mod I've looked at for a while. It sounds fun
  • added "Home System: Selectable Star Class". A RP mod, currently not enabling nonsensical immersion-threatening choices

No major changes here in early August, just some mod pack house-keeping in preparation for the MP game starting 8 days from now.

Mod count: 100 mods in the pack, af of this update.

If you have an on-going game, started before a change, then just skip the unsubscribe/re-subscribe procedure; then you'll stay subscribed to the mod pack as it was when you subscribed to it (as far as I know).

However, usually, you should be able to just unusb/re-sub and then continue the game with the new version of the mod pack, except you might want to stick with the same version of the Repeatable Tech mod (Additional Repeatable vs Additonal Repeating) that you started with.



The mods in this pack
Some mods improve the user interface, making windows larger or making window elements smaller, so that you have to use the pesky scroll wheel less often.

Others fix bugs, or otherwise improve the game (qualty-of-life). A few add better graphics or sound (without taxing the hardware too much; everything still works on my ancient computer, albeit at very low settings).

Some mods add new options, most prominently the Xenology mod, which adds a lot of new Traits to biological species (with plans to add Robot/Machine Traits too). Most mods that add BioTraits are, frankly, ♥♥♥♥, but Devious has managed to find a good approach to this issue, one that is both well-thought out and is balanced for use in multiplayer games.

Then there's the mod for the Repeatable Techs. There are two such mods (with quite similar names), I've tested them both; both are fairly well thought out, although it makes no sense to have both in the mod pack, as they do many of the same things. Also, one of them has a severe cost scaling bug post 2.0 (or post 2.1?), so I'll have to use the other one, until it's fixed. Otherwise I might swap between the two every so often, that was my intent, but that won't happen as long as one of the two is so badly broken.

...And the Endgame Unity mod, one that I'm not entirely sure I'll keep around for long, now that Unity Ambitions have been added with the DLC - and now also the StarterTech 2 mod, at long last updated to the post-2.0 game, making me very happy; I've missed it!

FN1 - Usually, in Multi-Player games, everyone has to be subscribed to the exact same mods, but some UI mods, such as the 1080 one, are exceptions, and MP ought to work fine even if some players subscribe to the entirety of this mod pack, while others unsubscribe from 1080.
