With some of the best visuals to date, Resident Evil 4 is a pure gem when it comes to atmosphere and dread. The lighting is absolutely incredible with highly detailed environments. No place looks the same as every location feels unique and jaw droppingly impressive. The enemy design is absolutely terrifying and improves vastly from the original. The locations look both new, and revamped from the original game. The RE Engine never seems to disappoint and only gets better with each release.

🎮Gameplay

The gameplay for RE4 is really impressive. The gunplay is addicting and fluid as well as the movement which feels realistic and smooth. This makes the game so much better than the original. Crafting items is a new welcoming change for RE4. As conserving ammo is far harder in the remake, crafting ammo is a lifesaver and is perfectly implemented. The parry system makes it where you can reflect attacks with your knife, causing degradation. This is a welcome change to improve combat and makes it more fun and engaging. Treasures also play a big role here, while finding some treasures you can add gems to make the treasure worth more. This makes finding treasures much more engaging and unique. The crazy cult followers can trigger their own traps, you can shoot weapons out of there hand and torches, burning them and tons more. Ashley is a huge improvement too. She doesn't feel annoying at all unlike the original game. She helps you out and feels overall really useful. Also, the dialogue between Ashley and Leon is really good. There is some cut content though that was not added from the original. Honestly with the more serious tone, the cut content is nowhere near as bad as RE2 and RE3 remake. Also if you get Separate DLC, some of the cut content is in there which is pretty nice. Both games offer a different experience, but if you are looking for a more grounded and horror/serious tone RE4, then this will provide that no problem! Also the RE4 remake is much harder then the original, which is amazing! I always found the original way too easy, especially with the combat and ammo conservation.

📜Story

In my opinion, this is a huge improvement from the original game. Now, RE4 Remake takes a more serious route. I did enjoy the original game to death and the campy, cheesy dialogue was part of the charm I grew up with and loved it alot. I might enjoy this more though, because everything feels more in stake and so well improved. Leon has more screen time with Luis, making him a more important character. Ashley is also a huge improvement from the original. The only thing I can say bad is that Ada and Leon don't not have as many scenes together as from the original. Also Saddler and Salazar have less screen time than the original (His character here is really good though). Although the trade off for the character build up for Ashley and Luis was worth it. Overall it’s a fantastic story and a huge improvement from the original (besides some small gripes)!

🕛Playtime

My first playthrough on Standard difficulty was about 18+ hours. I am deeply satisfied with the length of my first playthrough. You can beat this game at around 5 hours if you speedrun for a S+ Rank. If this is your first playthrough and you want to take your time to enjoy the story and atmosphere of the game, it will be a long playthrough. You will also have many challenges and content to unlock (concept arts, outfits, accessories, weapons, models). You even have a New Game+, allowing you to keep all your weapons and allowing you to change the difficulty for your next playthrough.

🎧Sound

The sound design is so incredible! The music is actually perfect and is far superior compared to the original. The boss fight music is so well done, the typewriter safe theme is soothing and the overall other soundtracks are perfect and all sound unique. The guns sound punchy and powerful and the enemies sound terrifying. The ambiance sounds amazing and the voice acting is incredible! Some may not like Ada's voice acting here, but once I played through Separate Ways DLC, she didn't sound that bad actually.

❗Bugs❗

There are some rare occurrences for bugs. I've had fire effects flickering, textures loading up slower than expected and some parries felt inconsistent. However, these only occurred on my end. With the texture issue, it could just be me using Fidelity FX causing this. So, if you are using normal anti aliasing, this should not be an issue for you.

🔅Performance

With my specs, I am able to play on high settings with a solid 60fps 95% of the time. There are some sections that caused some lag, but they were really short and didn’t last long. I’m so shocked I am able to play this game really well with an 8 year old PC. The optimization is impressive and that’s an understatement. Really proud to see so much care taken with the optimization.

🔗Conclusion

My first playthrough gave me a huge smile on my face. Seeing how well they produced this Remake gives me so much hope for the future of Resident Evil. With such little issues I've had here, RE4 Remake is definitely better than the original. RE4 Remake feels much more challenging, has a longer story, addictive gunplay and mechanics as well as better storytelling, etc. If you love survival horror or just looking for that scary story driven experience, you have to get this game. It’s perfect in my opinion. I’m excited to see the future of Resident Evil, because this game gave me so much hope and I couldn’t be happier.
