A masterpiece

It took me around 100 hours to finish the game.
The world of Rivellon is both big and alluring. It was a joy to explore every single corner of it.
Each battle was challenging, fun, made me use different tactics and I never got tired of fighting. The game balances roleplaying and combat perfectly. In some RPGs the combat is fine but the story and characters are what keep you playing. However in Original Sin 1 I didn't really care for the story while Original Sin 2 kept me interested at all times. It really improves on the lore, roleplaying and combat.
It's definitely a good sequel and one of the best games of 2017.

I only have two complaints: Romance had no effect on the ending and the amount of puzzles in the game.
It would have taken me A LOT more than 100 hours to finish the game because of the puzzles.
Now don't get me wrong. The puzzles are all interesting and well executed. There are some simple puzzles, moderate and very hard ones. I just don't have too much time to play video games and since there are so many puzzles in the game I had to resort to using Google way more than I'd like to admit. Now the romance and with it some minor spoilers ahead. I decided to romance Lohse. At the end of the game she asked me if I would like to travel the world with her and I can't answer her. All I can do is end the conversation and in the final cutscene the narrator tells me that she spent the rest of her life traveling Rivellon alone.
Just dissapointing.

But what is the game about? What's the story like?
You have the ability to use Source - A powerful and outlawed magic.
Magic used by the gods themselves. It's what gives them power.
The game starts with you being captured by Magisters who hunt and imprison everyone who can use Source. They take you to an isolated prison island. While there you make new friends, discover an unbelievable truth about yourself and make interesting alliances while trying to escape the island. You will meet dragons, witches, paladins, underground fighting arenas, demons, trolls, ghosts and much, much more.
You will also uncover conspiracies and astonishing secrets. Will you be the new Divine?

The game itself plays alot like the recent XCOM games. It's basically a turn-based roleplaying game. Not to worry tho. You can still create a custom character and choose their stats, race, gender, and origin story or you can simply choose one of the pre-made characters. There's a wide variety of classes to choose from as well. All your favourate melee, ranged and magic classes are there. It also has Steam Workshop and modders have made some really interesting class mods that are worth checking out. However, if you enable mods you are not able to earn achivements. This, in my humble opinion, is a bit foolish. It's a singleplayer game and I should be allowed to have my fun however I want. The trainers still work and it has no leaderboards in it so I don't really support disabling achivements for mod users. It's a minor complaint but a complaint nonetheless.

The game is well optimised and ran at a solid 60 frames per second at all times. I did experience two crashes during my playthrough but other than that I really didn't notice any other bugs or issues. Visually the game is lovely to look at and the soundtrack is marvelous. Don't go into it expecting remarkable next gen graphics though.

It's a game I most definitely won't forget any time soon. I want a sequel and I want it now!
A must play for every roleplaying fan and fans of the turn-based genre should give it a go as well.
Well done, Larian Studios, well done.

320 Hours played
Don't look at my Steam hours. I've put over 200 hours in the game on both Xbox One and the Xbox
app for PC.

Gears 5 has TONS of content and fan service.
Singleplayer, 3 player splitscreen and online co-op campaign with New Game+ and mutators.
2 different co-op modes: Escape and Horde.
Casual and Ranked multiplayer with 5 different gamemodes and over 20 maps.
Over 50 different characters with different skins to unlock, 19 weapons and 30 classes to choose from.
Not to mention all the different takedowns/finishers, banners, gestures and marks.

The Story

It takes place pretty much right after Gears of War 4. Kait, JD and Del are back in CoG. The first act is epic. It's all classic Gears of War mayhem in all of it's gory goodness. Unfortunately the second and third act are kind of boring. You follow Kait on an emotional journey in big sandbox areas that have nothing interesting to offer and exploring the entire map rewards you with nothing. The fourth and final act is the most linear act in Gears 5 but it's intense and almost just as entertaining as the first act so at least the game picks itself back
up. "Once again a Fenix rises to fight" is what they say in their "State of the world" video ingame but you play as JD only in the first act and then they kind of forget about him and Marcus up until the end. Let's just hope they make the right choice and let us carry on playing as JD in Gears 6.

Gameplay

It's Gears of War. It's a third-person cover based shooter and no one else does it better than Gears of War. There are couple of new things though. You can now upgrade Jack with different abilities. Jack can shock or stun enemies, shield you or even make you invisible for a period of time. You can also try out different mutators to either make the game easier or harder.. or goofy. There are mutators for voiced gun sounds, more aggressive enemies, floating corpses or having more or less ammunition avaible for you and much more.
You can also try out different filters that make the game look more like Gears of War 1 to 3 and you can also try out some goofy filters like "Pink Unicorn" and such.

I should also mention there are two different horde modes: Horde and Horde Frenzy.
In the classic horde mode you try to beat 50 waves of enemies with 3 friends.
Horde Frenzy is only 12 waves long but every 4th wave is a boss wave. It's definitely a lot quicker but also
more intense and fun in my opinion.

Now I used to both love & hate Gears 5.
On one hand it's one of the best TPS out there and definitely my most played game in 2020 but it seemed like they
didn't know their own fanbase at all. Fortunately all that has changed.
We now have classic skins for Marcus, Baird and Cole Train WOOOOOOO.
Recent update gave us Dom, Anya, Tai, Dizzy, Sam, Raam and more. Dom and Anya and classic skins should have
been there from the beginning but it's nice to see they finally cared enough to give us what we wanted: Well loved characters, maps and mutators.
Let's hope Gears 6 has all that from the beginning.

I wanted to give you an award for your recent comment in Pathfinder: WOTR, but the thread got locked. I feel the same way as you being happy about all the females they gave us. I respect your goals about boning all the women and wish to express gratitude for making me laugh. :)
