Ok, so let me be frank. I am on the fence for this one.
I was really hyped for the Game coming out, I even pressed F5 for like 2 hours on release day for the early access.
But I have to be honest.
I am a big New Blood Games Fan and I really like old stuff. This Game reminded me of "Chasm - The Rift", mixed with some Quake and maybe Dusk.
I haven't played the Demo, so I was just hyped for the whole Game.
I finished the first Episode that came out on Stream on Hard in ~3 hours. And well, it is good.
Don't get me wrong, this is a really good game.
BUT: ALL the weapons sounds like a peashooter. No kick or oomph to it.
Shotgun feels good, sounds bad.
Explosions sound okaish.
Every Time you find a secret it says "Secred Found", this is not even bad, it was just funny to me for whatever reason.
Game looks the "Dusk/Quake/Chasm" Part, but doesn't feel like it.
Ammo and health was very scarce, so I frequently ran out of ammo for a few weapons a few times.
This is not bad.


TL;DR: I am a little drunk, but still I stand by my critisicm. I would recommend the game, but to be fair, 15€ for an early access game that is not perfect, but has much potential is a little too much. Especially if the full Game will have "only" 3 Episodes. That's what I gathered. Still recommend. Support your Indie Devs, I want more of those type of Games, maybe a little more polished though.

How do these kids today say? This Game is a mood. This Game is a vibe.

So, what is Children of the Sun?
It is basically a puzzle Game, simple as that. A very, very short one at that (I will get to that later).
When you mix in the Vibes of the Movie "Mandy" with the Slowmotion Sniper Cam of Games like Sniper/Sniper Elite, put in a little Visual Style of Killer 7 and the Bullet Curving Mechanic of Games like Singularity/Bulletstorm/etc. you get Children of the Sun.

I won't discuss story here, because it is basically just a backdrop. It's setting the tone. Has that Cult-Revenge-Movie-Type feel to it.
Story is told without Voiceacting but in stylish animated Comic-like sequences that look pretty good.
The violence in those Cutscenes is just another moodsetter.

Regarding the "Music" I have mixed feelings. It is just droning and a little experimental, just a tiny bit of guitar and drums and doesn't have that many tracks.
Don't get me wrong, for the mood this Game wants to convey, it is pretty decent, but I wished there was more.

What do you do in Children of the Sun? You position yourself (the Game can be played with just one hand, only the mouse, which is pretty chill), mark some enemies, shoot a single bullet and eliminate every enemy whilst curving, speeding and directing your bullet through the level.
You are the bullet as soon as you shoot.
And you try to get a good score.
That's it! This is the Game.

Steam said it took me ~3.5 hours. And thus I arrive at my "criticism".
But it's not really that. On one hand, the Game doesn't overstay it's welcome. For Achievement and Leaderboard Hunters, there is replay value though. But on the other hand, it really is way too short for 15€.
Before you start flaming me regarding the topic of value in Games, I know, this is probably just one movie in the cinema and I got my moneys worth.
But it is hard comparing this to so many other Games on the market that offer the same and sometimes way more value for way less.
It's not like I got poor buying this, 15€ is not that much. But also it kinda is.

To be honest, I am not even quite sure on how I feel about the value for money thing here. Also I don't want to start a discourse.

Still, this is a fun little Game. Also you can shoot dudes in the d***.
