Interesting game that I FINALLY got around to playing. I get why this game is rated by many as a "gem", although I do think it has some shortfalls.
Generally: it's a QTE driven story action/adventure RPG about Joel and Ellie set in a zombie apocalypse world where a fungus (spores) can infect humans and turn them into various zombie types (based on their exposure duration). The game is presented in 12 chapters, which roughly span three Acts. The first two acts are very well done, both in story presentation, balance, and progression. The last Act is much more hit or miss, as the game has you taking on the POV of Ellie at several points. Narratively, it’s necessary given the writing, but it is more than a bit jarring and if written differently likely wouldn’t have required that change. Ultimately to me this is Joel’s story, and Ellie is the motivation for him to finally move on and finish grieving.
If you take the view that this is Joel’s story, then you’ll likely also be disappointed with the DLC, which is very much Ellie focused and narratively jarring (moving back and forth in Time between two points). It breaks the story progression in about the most annoying way and brings an entirely different tone to the game that adds very little to the narrative. I really don’t need to have a water gun fight in a DLC guys…
Overall a definitely recommend, although the DLC isn’t really worth playing. Solid 4/5.

Rogue City is a shooter set in the "Robocop" universe. The action takes place in Detroit, in various locales. The story appears to be set sometime between the end of Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 (movies). Generally: The shooter bits are C/C+: very dated for a PC, a bit "last gen console" look. That said, the game play variety mixes it up a good bit with usable weapon drops, a skill tree, and an upgradable auto-9 gun. For a Robocop game, it hits the mark very well, B+/A- level. I'd recommend that Robocop fans can pick this up at $40 or so and enjoy the ride...if you're looking for a shooter and don't know/care about the franchise universe, it's probably a pass.

It feels like a slightly extended add-on for Far Cry 5. The story suffers from the same complete crap writing that's driven forward by contrived cut scenes, but the open world aspects that make the game are still present. There is MUCH LESS to do in this version of Montana than the previous one we saw in FC5, but we do get to see/determine the final fate of some of the NPCs from that game.

I would NOT recommend this at full price, but if you can pick it up for $10 or so it's not a bad experience for 20-25 hours of gameplay.

Action game based on the Marvel Comics characters with great heart, decent combat, and a surprisingly touching story line. At times a bit repetitive (w/r/t combat) but otherwise a big thumbs up.

Bought shortly after launch, "Deluxe" Version at $80 (approx). Looks to be 10 campaign missions, each taking me around 3 hours. Campaign plays well, difficulty scales, and there's a degree of replay ability due to unlocks of various kinds (starting position) on first play through. When learning the game, the Axis Invasion feature is annoying; I disabled it. It may prove a bit more interesting after getting into the maps and game in general. Attempted to play Survival COOP twice, but both games failed to complete by glitching on a vehicle that couldn't be destroyed (the opposite of the issue in Sniper 4, when sometimes a vehicle was present by didn't need to be destroyed). Clearly COOP at least needs some work. Generally: recommended buy if you like the previous entries in the series, but if you're wanting it for online COOP, give it a bit more time.

An unexpected gem, similar in nature to Telltale games, but amp'd up a good bit. Interesting story, decent game play, great graphics and sound.

Far Cry 5 single player campaign (look elsewhere for online play reviews).

What's to like? The answer is "a lot". Great visuals, good voice acting, open world, RPG elements, attention to audio (including actual song licenses), but....

It still suffers from what can only be called "bad story telling". As I'd just finished Far Cry 3, and ultimately gave it a thumbs down (for similar reasons), I now know I don't need to play FC4. The fundamental issues is the use of a "game mechanic" that is essentially an excuse for extremely lazy writing and story telling. Each "boss" at some point captures the protagonist MULTIPLE times during the game (per FC3)--but you "escape" each time. Here, at least, there exists an in-game pseudo-reason called Bliss, a mind-altering drug that you are exposed to multiple times during the story. It's introduction as a maguffin serves to make those Quick Time Event "captures" and associated escapes at least somewhat palatable.

But at the end, I have to ask myself--if I have to put up with exceptionally poor storytelling (even though there is a kernel of a good story here), what is the payoff (ending)? Unfortunately, this game falls flat on it's face here. In many ways it's reminiscent of Mass Effect 3: there's no REALLY good ending. I'd say this game has three endings: a "good" one, a "bad" one, and a "really bad" one. On my play through, I ended up picking the "bad" one (the game play will likely drive most players to the "really bad" one). Picking the "good" one means you get a long QTE event, a choice, and the game ends. Maybe 10 minutes of total play (i.e. that "good" ending occurs in the introductory scene). For me, that's inexcusable...thumbs down.

Half Life, remade. Generally good, Xen is WAY better in this version. Like Half Life or new to it: play this one.

It's Far Cry: good / great graphics, but 15 hours in the story has gone past lame into stupid, and quick time events (QTEs) that can't be skipped dominate what passes for the "story".

The main character has no motivation other than that provided by the QTE's: one enemy constantly defeats the main character in QTEs only to regret it later--multiple times. He eventually stabs you in the heart and then in a dream sequence you kill him??? At that point it earned it's "thumbs down" as a mediocre button masher with good graphics, at best an ok story.

Unless button mashing QTEs are your thing, I'd pass...and if they are your thing you're probably a console gamer and not reading this.

Nice game, probably the best of any game from the Terminator franchise. Basically takes as cannon the first two movies, but is set in the future, post Judgement Day.

Game play is 1st person shooter with RPG elements (leveling, skills), but by the end you'll likely have all the skills maxed out. I found normal to be slightly challenging, but not significantly so. Game play varies, but before the end you'll need to invest in some fighting skills, although stealth early on can be a viable option.

Graphics are sadly dated for a recent release, aligned with average fare for 4th gen consoles. Sound effects are good, and music is fairly decent, although at times miscued.

I purchased this on on sale for $24, and got about 16 hours of play on the full play through. Due to the RPG and choice elements, there is some replay ability--but I'd put this in the "wait for sale" category, unless you're needed some decent terminator fix.

The story is derivative, but it beats whatever passed for that Dark Fate fiasco.
