Dude! I am so high, I can see RoboCop!

RoboCop: Rogue City is a first-person shooter developed by Teyon and published by Nacon in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

RoboCop is a great continuation of the movie series, roughly happening between the 2nd and 3rd movies, and it greatly captures the essence of those movies, genuinely immersing you into the role of RoboCop.

In the game, Detroit is controlled by the OCP corporation. Another mysterious criminal mastermind has appeared in Detroit and is trying to take over all crime. The protagonist’s task is to discern who is hiding behind the shadows. I personally didn’t watch any movies before starting this game, but it really inspired me to watch the original trilogy, which, in the end, made my jaw drop with excitement.

The gameplay consists of several elements, the main one being shooting. Most of the game is spent behind a crosshair fighting bad guys with spectacular VFX, greatly destructible environments, and a well-detailed dismemberment system, all of course powered by Unreal Engine 5, which I think Teyon mastered ever since releasing bootleg games back in 2014. Other than shooting, you also have deduction sequences where you kinda have to investigate crime scenes L.A. Noire style. And of course, can’t leave out exposition cutscenes where you are put into the lives of officers, local criminals, or just general people living in the precinct and, of course, serve and protect the law by putting parking tickets on some cars that are parked near the fire hydrant.

The combat of RoboCop: Rogue City is phenomenal. Not only do they manage to put you into the shoes of a giant metal cyborg, which is basically an unstoppable force, but they also manage to balance out the immense power RoboCop has by throwing enough enemies with powerful weapons against you. It kinda plays out like a light gun shooter, except you get the freedom of movement around the semi-open locations, well recreated from the movies. RoboCop has an ability tree and he can grab and throw objects or enemies around, has bullet time, and several skills like dash or guard that regenerate over time during combat. RoboCop can’t jump or crouch, and his movement is slow overall, opening a new window of possibilities for you as a player, making you more and more invested in the gameplay until the credits start rolling, and the game’s soundtrack absolutely enhances everything that was already great, cranking it up to 11.

A few words on optimization - IT IS SUPERB. Not only do the graphics look cinematically stunning on all the graphics settings cranked up to their highest values, but the game also maintains a steady framerate throughout, which genuinely impressed me. I also had a blast playing the game on the Steam Deck. While not using the highest settings, it still looked great for a handheld like that and played really well at a steady 30FPS, and for such a fun game, that's all that really matters.

RoboCop: Rogue City is an excellent continuation of the cult film franchise. I'm really glad to see that Teyon had a serious glow-up over a span of a decade to release such a fantastic title, which will sit on the top of my heart and which I will remember fondly as time goes on. I really hope that they will also follow up with an even greater sequel.

Pretty much the best Robocop game ever made. It has everything one would want and the theme is just as mature as the first movie.

RPG light action adventure in first person. While it is a must buy for Robocop fans. I would argue the combat can come of as a bit stiff, but it makes sense since you are Robocop. That said, they really add allot of features and unlocks one can do to change up the gameplay. Everything from allowing Robo to use other guns, but then add main weapon improvements towards the mid game that makes one want to use the default gun more and more. Add grab enemy, throw, slow mo mode and a kill shot to the balls while the perp is mid air and you know you are playing a mature and imaginative Robocop game.

A must play for Robocop fans.

If you can make a classic like Robocop then you can do Judge Dredd......Just sayin
