Combat feels clunky, stealth is a joke often, the swarms of bugs and rats are literally impossible to deal with unless you dig up bait bombs for every occasion and add almost nothing to the game other than being irritating and requiring you to go around looking for mats to clear them. It's frustrating to play because it really is a beautiful game with a cool setting...

But navigating the split map system is a nightmare and I don't really understand the layout of the zone at all. Do I really have to run and take a weird tunnel to get to another zone to take a tunnel again?

I don't need fast travel but maybe an easier zone transition even?

The game looks like 2026 but feels like 2016.

The game is fun but broke as hell which is confusing because it's broken in ways the prologue/demo wasn't. Reloading my gun freezes halfway through and then blocks me out of doing any actions until I reload my save. Getting in and out of a car doesn't change it but it just redid the same thing after loading on hitting reload again so it's not a rare issue.

There are objects around like ammo crates and boxes that are closed and should be lootable but don't indicate at all and you're often ON the item you want to interact with but have to swing the mouse in circles until you find the magical angle that actually allows you to interact. If you try to hit F before you've entirely stopped moving it will bring the bar up and reset so you have to usually initiate searches twice. Why hitting F on an item to search doesn't stop your movement to avoid this I can't say... It's all issues that are small but combine into annoyance.

They just put it out into EA so I'm sure they'll fix most of these but it's been quite a while since the demo released so I'm confused on how things seem less stable, not more.

Also, please add or change

Allow dimming or adjusting the HUD brghtness/opacity/color for people on OLED's so I don't have a blindingly bright white thing int he center of my screen.

Allow loading from the menu (without a hotkey bound to prevent accidents) rather than forcing a main menu trip.

Lol, "next gen update"

It didn't add a single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ next gen thing. No UW support, no HDR, still locked at 60 Hz, still crashes with weapon debris on with RTX cards.

WTF did you guys even do? Add monetization?

♥♥♥♥ you, Starfield is the last Bethesda game I pay money for. You broke a bunch of mods and saves and gave me NOTHING to justify it with.

Mods have done all of the things mentioned, there's zero reason for you guys to be this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incompetent unless it's a joke at my expense and i'm done laughing.

So this is a weird review.

I recommend it if you're into the universe or love Robocop. It does legit feel like you're a walking tank that kicks serious ass. But, that has the downside that the fights often feel a bit repetitive since they're not usually high motion but a corner peak situation. I'm still enjoying it though, just getting to walk around the police office from the movie is amazing.

But, there's only really one "open world" section of town that you'll go to over and over and the game does feel like it has enough variation that it's not tedious but it's not great either.

I'd say wait for a sale, it's worth it at $35 but it's got a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ save system where you don't know when it's saving or not without going in and looking at timestamps on the load screen. I paid $60 to play early and get the skins and I don't feel like I regret it but I can't say it's the best game ever either.}

I mean, "I'd buy that for a dollar!"

but $35-$40 dollars would also be acceptable.

EDIT 20231009,

They added an FOV slider. I still think the DLSS and HDR should have been properly implemented at launch but at least those are features that aren't critical to playing the game... But FOV is crucial. I changed it to a thumbs up now but they need to get DLSS and HDR properly working so I don't have to ♥♥♥♥ with modding for basic graphics options.

I would yes but I refuse to until they add basic ass ♥♥♥♥ that the game already actually supports into the menu. I should not need to mod and adjust ini files to set FOV, enable HDR, and use DLSS when modders got them all working before the game even technically released. Bethesda could have done it with a few hours of work probably having intimate knowledge of the engine and build and didn't. I have to assume that was deliberate, so my "no" is deliberate just the same. So, if they can't be bothered to care about PC gamers then PC gamers shouldn't be bothered to care about Bethesda.

But to adjust the FOV go to

"C:\Documents\My Games\Starfield" Where "C:\" is the drive your documents are stored on. It's D for me as I use a second drive for it.

Make a new file called StarfieldCustom.ini
Make sure you have "show extensions for known file types" enabled in the windows file viewer options area so that it's not a .txt file if you mess up and make a new text file.

In that file copy and paste

[Camera]

fFPWorldFOV=105.00
fTPWorldFOV=105.00

But you can make the 105 any number you want for your own preference and setup.

This ♥♥♥♥ should be in the base game as a slider and ♥♥♥♥ them for not doing it. There's no way someone on their team wasn't like "hey this is a setting every game the last decade has and even our own engine has functional in it, should we let the user set it?" and someone said no.

For auto HDR fix make a copy of starfield.exe and rename it farcry5.exe and then windows will let auto hdr work which is reasonably good for the game. This doesn't seem to work with most of the DLSS swaps so if your'e doing that you need to do more digging to find a solution. The below section needs to be pasted into the steam command modifier line for Starfield. (Again, substituting E or whatever for your drive letter and then game location. If you need help finding the game location you can right click the game and go to properties and then browse files and look at the address section of the explorer window to see where the game files are at)

"E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Starfield\farcry5.exe" %command%

EDIT

I also understand people who wanted more of a "space sim" game like Star Citizen or No Mans Sky but with more RPG and content to them but there's a reason this game is actually releasing for one which Star Citizen isn't and won't lol, and doesn't need the next 3 years of updates to get to where it's actually fun to play (looking at no mans sky). Everyone looks at no man's sky today, but no mans sky on release was literally none of the things people wanted it to be lol. You can't make a game that's as complex as no mans sky with as much content as a bethesda game and have it release on time, on budget, or ever.

But as much as Todd Howard can be a ♥♥♥♥, I can't find any reference to him ever even implying you this was a space sim first and rpg second. It's bethesda?

A lot of stuff to do
A realistic space sim
Action packed

Pick two, you can't have them all lol. Spending 25 minutes per landing on each planet would make the game pace totally ♥♥♥♥.

I've only got an hour in the game but that's because I refuse to go watch 400 youtube videos to figure out how basic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ survival should occur.

I crouched and I'm moving through a AND ALL THE ZOMBIES SEE ME ANYWAY!

Ok fine, I'll fight them, oh, ok you have to hold right mouse to swing your melee weapon, but you can't do it too quickly after switching to your melee weapon or it won't swing and you can't hold down the button while changing weapons or it won't swing either. Ok, so I figured out the unnecessary quirks to swinging my weapon, lets fight a zombie. Oh... it's... inside my swing arc? No, am I swinging past it?

You know what, ♥♥♥♥ it, the game is probably going to focus a lot of melee and it feels like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to do so I'm glad I only paid $12 for this piece of garbage. It's unreal engine, you can make melee not feel like pulling teeth if you want to, but nah, don't you know survival games have to make you hate playing to be good.

UPDATE:

Review changed to positive because the issue is fixed and of course the game is amazing otherwise.

I gotta give this thing a negative review right now. I am loving the game, I'm 40 hours into a campaign, so why would I give it a negative review you ask?

Because atm I can't progress any more than 40 hours into my save due to a game breaking CTD that occurs when I sleep no matter what I mess with or change. Googling this crash gives me hundreds of results from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2020 which means this is something they probably know about and just haven't fixed and I can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ accept that. Cmon guys, the game is amazing, screw you for teasing me into an amazing story only so I can beat my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ head against the desk while I CTD 20 times in a row.

I love that submitting a bug report resets all the game settings so I have to reset my HDR settings and ♥♥♥♥ every time too, super convenient.

Pretty good but literally everything Cyrillic is translated wrong lol. If you can read Cyrillic it will probably frustrate you to see that the CPU's are written differently in English and Cyrillic.

As posted by others, this is an SNES game ported to modernish graphics. It's not a remake, it's more of a "remaster". It's still the same mechanics essentially used in the SNES version. I hear FM2 is coming later and it was a PSX game so it should be more tolerable for people who don't enjoy the old mechanics. FM3 was already available in english on the PSX so you can go and play that now if you want an idea of what an improved FM game is.

If you like stalker and or Tarkov and or and other loot based shooter game... This game is great.

No, it's not multiplayer, and no, it's not planned to be until maybe it's finished and released as a maybe and I'm perfectly ok with that. It's a game that's going to have a loose story I think, but a quest/task system that compels you to keep branching out a little more risky each time until you build your methodology and confidence. When you mess up it can feel brutal but when you get a good haul and escape you feel that reward.

The game is still very early beta but I have 55 hours in at the time of this writing and that's what it took me to complete the currently available task list minus one. Cannot wait to see what the game eventually evolves into as a final product.

I can understand people wanting it to be coop, but the way the game plays and the balance just doesn't lend itself to coop well. It would be far too easy with coop unless you end the run at any single players death etc. It is just not fundamentally an easy thing to implement without it being boring or easy.
