Ready to be hit with a wave of nostalgia that will satisfy your craving for more RoboCop?! Rogue City delivers an awesome gaming experience as you follow the life of Alex Murphy who is trying to figure out the line between man and machine. If you’re a fan of the series, or experiencing RoboCop for the first time, you’ll definitely be in for a good ride. The voice actor in the films (Peter Weller) is back to voice RoboCop in this game which is super sick. Overall, the game is pretty linear but there are missions that open the area up to do side quests which give more insight on the world around you. All achievements can be obtained in one playthrough, although if you do miss any, you can reload an old save to go back and get them. The gunplay was awesome as I powered through areas feeling like a complete tank mowing enemies down. There are a variety of weapons and enemies as you progress through the story. Take care of bad guys by bursting in guns blazing or strategically take out each enemy one by one. RoboCop: Rogue City stays true to the feel of the franchise, delivering an R-Rated, humorous, over the top shooter gaming experience filled with awesome one-liners. This game feels like a true love letter to the RoboCop films, bravo Teyon! Really enjoyed this one.

Lords of the Fallen has definitely carved its own slice out of the souls-like genre with this entry. This has been a title that I knew I would enjoy from the moment they announced a sequel to their previous game released almost a decade ago. After spending around 140+ hours in this game so far, I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations and more. Level design absolutely blew my mind, music is great, build variety is awesome, axiom/umbral realms work really well, and the natural progression/story of the game was extremely fun to play multiple times to achieve all endings. Coming fresh off of Lies of P, almost all of the bosses felt super easy to me but I play a ton of souls-likes. Performance was pretty solid in my experience as well, with very little fps drops and a few crashes. Major shoutout to the dev team for constantly updating the game and listening to the community! Crossplay was disabled at release, but since the new update I’ve done another playthrough with my brother who is on PS5 and everything worked flawlessly. All of the achievements are what you’d expect from a souls-like with majority coming from either fallen bosses, side quest completion, weapon upgrades, item collections, and endings. I’m definitely a fan of multiple endings and the side quests were really cool; although a lot of them being super easy to miss. I was a bit skeptical about the no vestiges in NG+ feature, but now the option of going NG+0 with the new update is a quality-of-life improvement and it makes achievement hunting less of a chore. The collection achievements were a grind to say the least, collecting the weapons, armor and umbral stigmas took me a few sleepless nights to track down. This year has been awesome for souls-like fans. I’m just glad we were fortunate enough to get another heavy hitting title in the mix that will only push this genre to the next level! Well done Hexworks, can’t wait to see what’s next!

Fires of Rubicon was my entry to the Armored Core franchise and one of the few “mech” games I’ve ever played. Now I am hooked. After playing through the game multiple times to get all the endings and unlock all the missions, I have to say that this is one of the coolest games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. The weapon/build variety is absolutely insane and that goes hand-in-hand with the option to play PvP if you are interested in even more combat. AC6 has been on my radar ever since I heard about them bringing the series back, so I decided to give it a try. Was not expecting to get as addicted to the gameplay as much as I have. All the mechanics flow extremely well and the actions become second nature the more time you put into the game. The story seemed very vague at the beginning (which I love btw) but as you reach the end of your first playthrough and make certain decisions, all the pieces start coming together forming this awesome world around you. Finishing the game three times gives you the true ending and enables you to unlock all the missions that you need to obtain Rank S for in order to 100% this game….that is the most challenging achievement in my opinion. The grind almost drove me mad. Performance is rock solid, music is phenomenal, and customization is other worldly. Playing this game was an experience I’ll never forget.

Always in support of bringing Playstation games to Steam! Keep them coming! Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an amazing title in the franchise, having played the earlier ones on PS2 as a kid. It was a blast playing through the story and then obtaining the collectables afterwards. All of the characters are great and the story is simple & sweet. This game is not hard to 100% being you can complete the game on “Rookie Recruit” mode and not all collectables are required for all achievements. My favorite thing about this game are the weapons! The variety in playstyles is vast. There are 20 total weapons that you can hot swap between and combat feels really really good. Boss battles are great, enemy variety is nice, and the battle arena was an awesome touch! Rift Apart was a great time, and I’m looking forward to any other titles that are brought over. If you’re a fan of the franchise or just want to try Ratchet and Clank out, don’t hesitate to pick this one up!

Another game from one of my favorite video game series of all time! Playing through Rise of the Dragons was a super fun time that left me wanting more. There are so many things that I think this game does right; variety of characters, customizable story mode runs, special abilities, cool unlockables, and multiple endings. There is a ton of variety when playing through story mode with you being able to pick from four characters right off the bat depending on your playstyle, and then you're given the option to choose in what order you want to take on the gangs. This game is even better playing with a friend in local co-op. The feature to have two endings was super cool and made playing through the game multiple times an even better experience. For all achievements, you’ll have to beat the game a minimum of four times to see all four gang’s full missions (the last one you face being the full mission). The gameplay mechanics are killer and the bosses are super unique. And of course, the Double Dragon soundtrack is phenomenal. If you like the “beat ‘em up” genre, this is definitely a must-have. Looking forward to the next installment in the franchise coming to steam hopefully later this year!

I’ve been hooked on rogue-likes lately and Scarlet Maiden has been on my radar ever since it was released into early access this year. If you’re pretty good at these types of games you could easily 100% it faster than I did. Love the art style and sprite animations! The different weapons felt The game is pretty easy once you start leveling up your character with upgrades and higher-level weapons. Most of the progressional achievements will be unlocked without much thought. I would say there is only one grindy achievement and that is to level Scarlet up to level 230, pretty much maxing out her upgrade tree. The toughest achievement is definitely the one they added with a recent update; to beat the game on hard mode. It really was quite enjoyable to play on hard mode because it felt like you weren’t too overpowered until you really started getting deep into the upgrades tree. The bosses were cool but the patterns were very easy to master. Overall, I thought this game was really well made and there was a lot of thought put into it. I had a blast obtaining all achievements and I’m so glad I picked this game up!

Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart is a pretty fun cartoon racing game that has resemblances to Mario Kart. Most of the achievements can be obtained almost afk’d by putting the game into easy mode and letting the cpu race for you. If you need a guide, I have one posted! I enjoyed playing this racing game even though I really haven’t played a lot of them the past couple years. The controls feel nice, especially the drifting. The graphics are nice to look at and the map variety is a big plus. The price may be a little steep in my opinion, but catching this game on sale will grant you a great time and an easy perfect game.

I had been wanting to play Far: Lone Sails for a really really really long time and after finally one-hundred percenting it in one sitting, I can say that this game is completely worth your money and time. I cannot recommend this game enough. The story is simple, yet mysterious; which starts from the moment that you set out on your journey. This is a vehicle adventure game that has you manage your landship through many different obstacles that you face along the way. It feels as if it is just you and your machine out in a big world full of nothing; filled with little hints of a past civilization from a time long ago sprinkled in. All of the achievements were fun to go after. I played through this game at the same time as my brother was playing it on PS5, so going after the “speedrun in 99 minutes” achievement was super fun on the second playthrough. This led to us doing more speedruns to reach the “It’s Over 9000!” achievement since you have to put a ton of miles on your landship to obtain it. The music is amazing, the gameplay feels great, and the art style is extremely awesome. Just give this one a try, I’m playing the second game, Far: Changing Tides, as soon as I can.

Only Up! is an addictive platformer where you start at ground level and climb up! The very casual and relaxing gameplay mixed with tense and anxiety inducing moments make for a unique and fun experience as you progress to the top. I found out about this game from speedrunning videos on Youtube and realized I had to give this a try. I’m so glad that I did. There were a few parts of the map that I had trouble platforming, but the challenge made me keep moving forward….or up! This was a super fun game that took me an afternoon to beat. As an achievement hunter, I’d love to see more achievements added for collecting items on your way up, for beating the game within a certain time, or beating the game multiple times! Any of those would be cool. Overall, I really loved my time with Only Up! and I look forward to future updates and possibly new content!

I hadn’t heard about 9 Years of Shadows until just a few days before launch, so I was really hyped when I saw this. I’m playing more metroidvania style games this year, and I’m so glad that I gave this one a try. This game was not without its flaws, but overall, I really enjoyed the core experience and the awesome features that were to offer. The overall plot is about a noble warrior woman who is on a quest to venture into a mysterious robotic fortress and destroy the corruption coming from there. Sounds cool right?!

Pros:
Art Style – this is where 9 Years of Shadows really shines. After the beginning grey intro scene, you are presented with a vibrant and colorful world. You can tell this was a huge focus for the dev team and they delivered big time. In my opinion, the different areas were all beautiful to look at and different enough to help me remember each zone vividly.

Atmosphere – I personally loved the story and feel of the world around you as you progressed through the game. The small cutscenes when traveling through the elevator to a new zone were a nice touch. The atmosphere really went hand in hand with the art style which made the gameplay of this game feel awesome.

Music – the music is absolutely phenomenal. It grabbed my attention right away and just added to the overall experience of traversing Talos. I’m a huge fan of video game music so I definitely loved this part of 9YoS.

Gameplay – there is a lot to cover in gameplay! Combat and game controls feel great. 9 Years of Shadows has a unique combat style that intrigued me from the start. It took me a little to get use to how the main character’s shields and mana were combined. Once the pool of mana was depleted, a timing event occurs on screen and allows you to refill your bar back up. If your pool of mana is depleted and you take a hit, you lose an armor point (which you upgrade your number of armor points during the game). After I mastered this, combat felt super fluid and I almost felt unstoppable. Your sidekick (Apino) has an ability that drains your mana pool but can definitely be useful to traverse the world or refill your mana pool. Another aspect of gameplay are Europa’s (main character’s) armor sets. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ability to switch between them based on the area you’re in, and upgrade them individually was super sick. Combat may seem pretty basic as far as different attacks go, but I think that is a positive! Like I said before, you can increase your armor and mana by collecting upgrades throughout the world, combined with coins that you get from killing enemies, then visiting the blacksmith. Lastly, questing is pretty straightforward in 9YoS but overall, I felt it was great addition to the game that helped players actually seek out optional bosses. The musicians were an awesome hub area to check progress of your character and pull the story full circle with how much progress you have made in Talos. Bosses were unique and there were quite a few of them! Some more challenging than others, but overall, I didn’t have a hard time progressing through them.

Cons:
Crashes – after the patches and updates I have heard that the crashes have gotten better, but on launch day I had quite a few crashes. After certain boss fights, while traversing the map, when trying to save…there were quite a few different scenarios where my game crashed to desktop. I understand it is hard to optimize a game for PC, and I’m super grateful they are working even harder to make the game flawless in performance. I don’t know if all the bugs causing crashes are fixed, but in my experience of playing the game right after release, I had to replay areas because I hadn’t saved for a long time or even replay full boss fights. Just a thing to keep in mind!

Locked Achievements – Being an achievement hunter, I was losing my mind when achievements weren't unlocking for me after my first full playthrough. Haha. They should all be fixed now so this isn’t really a negative anymore, but for some reason a few boss achievements didn’t pop for me on my first playthrough, as well as some collectable/sidequest achievements. That’s kind of why I put my review of this game off because I couldn’t 100% it until some of the achievements were fixed. All good now!

Overall, 9 Years of Shadows is a super fun metroidvania at a great price. The devs didn’t try to over innovate, they created a solid experience for players to bite their teeth into. I enjoyed my experience with the game. Newer players to the metroidvania genre will probably love this game while veterans may feel like they want more from it. I thought this was a solid title and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
