Early Access Review
If you loved quake, you will love this.

I only have a few issues with this, but does not keep me from recommending this at all:
* Mouse sensitivity also affects the menu cursor. I like playing with high sensitivity so this makes the menu more difficult to use.
* Getting out of water can be difficult when geometry works against you. This more a product of the quake engine, so I'm not sure what to tell you about that.
* There might be way too much ammo for all weapons. But given that this is early access, I'm sure that'll be tweaked later on.
* The teleporation effect for enemies takes way too long, making their encounters rather easy when I just have to wait until they can be shot and ambush them. They should be the ones ambushing me!
* I'm on the fence with the shotgun's altfire. At first glance it seems unweildly to use, only really being effective around narrow corners and that's it.
* Enemy pathing might actually be worse than quake's was. They get stuck on walls very often.

Now, to keep from sounding too negative, let me tell you all the things I loved:
* Coherent Oldschool feel. This is what Quake 2 should have been to me. (I mean, I loved quake 2, but its not a proper sequel to the original)
* The weapons feel amazing.
* Most of the enemies actually feel threatening, especially the Heretic (basically its like a three-headed cacodemon). Gibbing them is quite satisfying.
* I've seen a bunch of complaints about movement, but honesty it feels perfectly fine to me, other than getting out of water.
* I love how useful the melee weapon is, especially being a movement tool. (Many of the secrets require it too.)
* The level design so far is pretty good, though I sometimes get lost in the more mazey parts, but honestly that was often the case in Quake too.
* Delicious gore.

I honestly can't wait until the full version is out.

One thing I'd like to know is if there will be modding support. I don't see why not considering the base engine is literally Darkplaces.

I grew up with Descent 1 and 2, and this is very much what I've been waiting for!
