Gearbox in their infinite wisdom decided to update every single dependency for a 4 year old game including the engine (Unity) and the audio system. This broke a lot of things, and if the haphazard refactors already weren't a red flag for mismanagement regarding this game- this certainly is. I love this game and I want people to enjoy it, but unfortunately in the current state it just isn't a good experience and I cannot in good conscience encourage people to give it a try until Gearbox fixes their massive blunder. History has shown this is unlikely. Prove me wrong, Gearbox.

If you've played Warframe and have an issue with the amount of features and just stuff that game has, the First Descendant might be good for you. It fundamentally is a simplified Warframe (or rather Warframe closer to release before a lot of features were added) with the aesthetic of something like Destiny 2. (As a lot of people have already pointed out.)

Having reached the beginning of the end-game, the grind hits you very suddenly. The very tip of content, Ultimate Descendants, are mostly restricted to dungeons that require pre-made groups. You have to co-ordinate a group together either via the already spammy world chat, OR in something like Discord.

That said, the grind itself is still oddly satisfying, the gameplay loop is either quick or diverse depending on how you route your stuff. But when you finally do get that drop, it feels extremely good. The game also isn't particularly harsh with a lot of stuff, either. A lot of components are easy to get, just that final piece to make the puzzle come together. I've yet to feel like something is actually impossible to get, though you can't escape the curse of getting stuff you don't want at that particular time.

Edit: Updating this review because as of version 1.0.2 they've improved the farming methods for the endgame, and signaled that they do not intend to nerf the fun builds which is something you love to hear.

I only played the campaign and I have not completed it as the game broke me. Let me put this scenario in for you of what did this.

You instruct a ship to attack a stationary turret, the ship follows the command and goes to attack.
It gets on the same "horizontal" plane as the turret despite it being space and you can attack from any direction.
It then moves down for some unknown reason, obscuring line of sight to the turret.
Instead of moving back up, it goes all away around the structure into a tube to emerge on top of the turret.

They really wanted to show off line of sight mechanics in this game with the inclusion of two stealth missions and several run and gun missions where you also need to take heavy advantage of LoS blockers. Which would be fine if the path finding didn't make me miss the awful path finding from the 90s.

Nixxes is really good at porting games, overall the support and stability of this game is A+.

Game is kind of medium-sized in length but definitely memorable.

Imagine if your typical MOBA, Air Hockey, and Rocket League were combined into the same game. That's what Omega Strikers is, it's incredibly fun but has a small player base so finding matches can take some time. You can help by playing the game :)
