Early Access Review
i have almost 200 hours in the original slime rancher, so obviously i'm stoked about the sequel!
it's HUGE, and now i can see why they needed to make a whole other game instead of just adding to the base one.
it's excellent and i'm so excited for updates.

coincidentally, right as i started rereading warrior cats, i got the urge to play the original cattails. to my surprise, the sequel is out?? fastest purchase of my life.
from just a few hours, i can see that the art style is joyous, the hunting mechanic is addicting, and the music is great.
excited to keep playing, and even make new save files!

i like digimon which is why i put up with the weird translation(which gets better with time, oddly enough) and confusing first parts, otherwise i probably wouldn't have bothered. i'm glad i kept at it though, it's pretty relaxing to just grind monsters for quests.

i havent had any connection problems at all, so i have no idea where those complaints are coming from.
i also wouldnt call it "pay to win", it's more like "pay to get rare digimon". i haven't paid for any digimon that the game doesn't already give you for free and i've had very little issues progressing in the game. the level up rewards are really good.

overall it's a relaxing time-waster but it's not particularly in depth. people that don't already have at least a small level of digimon knowledge(mine is very basic) probably won't care for it.

so far i think it's pretty cute. unlike other stardew valley inspired games it actually seems like a labor of love and not a cheap cash-in. i also appreciate how it's very inspired by the warrior cats series which is very near and dear to my heart. obviously, i had to buy this game for that reason.
the graphics are quaint and pretty simple, even a bit amateurish, but i actually like it even more because of that. it's charming.
one negative thing i can say so far is that the controls for hunting seem a bit weird sometimes but i've gotten used to it(or maybe just gotten better at it).

Early Access Review
i'm gonna split this review into 3 parts: general commentary, pros+cons, and suggestions for future updates.
slime rancher is a very good game.
a very, very good game.
it's a prime example of what early access should be- a throuroughly enjoyable game with periodic updates. it's currently only at patch 0.6.0b but feels like it could be a finished game on its own(besides a few bugs that the latest patch hasn't fixed yet)

pros:
-graphically it's very vivid and stylized. there's a lot to love about the look of this game.
-there's a HUGE world to explore
-good ost and great sound design
-smooth controls
-IT'S ADORABLE, SERIOUSLY JUST LOOK AT IT
-there's always something to do
-tons of goals to work for
-the devs work fast and listen to the players
-there's some lore being written into the game now(personally i don't care about lore but if that's your kinda thing then you'll probably appreciate it)

cons:
-it starts off kinda slow
-it lags more with the glass desert update
-it's very very easy to get lost, a map system of sorts would be amazing
-slimes don't exist in real life

current glitches i've noticed:
-2 of the 3 tangle slime statues in the glass desert lose their plort and have to be re-fed each time i reset the game
-the extractors, particularly the drill one, have weird sound glitches(sound doesn't play when facing away from them despite being right next to them)
-treasure pods that have been previously opened will play the opening animation again when you enter the area
-plort output is uneven with largos(from what i've noticed, might be wrong)
-not a glitch, but the taming bell is currently really clunky to ring. maybe making it so you can press e to ring it would improve the functionality of it?

with that being said, my suggestions for future updates are as follows:
-UPGRADES FOR SILOS. 100 units is not nearly enough storage. it would be nice to have more than 4 types of items max in each silo as well.
-garden plot upgrades, such as an auto-harvester. this would make it quicker to collect crops and would prevent the crops from going bad if you're not around to harvest them.
-some kind of map system. possibly as part of slime science? maybe you can build a map of an area after collecting 1 of each unique resource from the area. or maybe maps could be unlocked through the 7zee rewards program. it would also be awesome if the maps would include some kind of way to see where you've placed extractors since it's easy to forget exactly where they've been placed.
-more 7zee ranks!
-a plort collecter for the ponds and incinerators.
-more places to put slime science gadgets such as extractors, particularly in the wild
-a way to "de-upgrade" certain upgrades for plots on the ranch, such as removing the solar shield from a corral or removing a scareslime without having to demolish the whole entire plot.
-a way to rotate slime science gadgets such as warp depots without having to demolish them
-the ability to sell resources much like you'd sell plorts, possibly another kind of market?
-better range exchange offers, particularly for later in the game
-warp depots with more than one item slot
-possibly another ranch expansion for more plots/space
-a way to see the plort market from the portable plort market gadget, instead of having to run back to the main one to see the current plort values
-generally just more slime science gadgets for convenience as well as more treasure pods for more decorations/curios

JUST BUY THIS GAME TBH IT'S WORTH ITTTTT
i got it as an xmas gift but i'd gladly buy it myself if i had to, it's so much fun and if you think you'll like it, you probably will.

i didn't think much of the game for the first 15 minutes or so, but once you get more abilities it goes from walking simulator to fever dream.
if you like collecting things, you'll probably like wandering around collecting thoughts and taking the form of various things to add to your collection of.....things. i enjoy collecting things so i enjoy the game. yes, it's a game in my opinion. some people are saying it's just a simulator but it's more like a giant sandbox that you can play around in that actually has some goals. also a dapper british man speaks sometimes. he's cool.

this program is one of the best for its price and content included. it's very similar in interface to paint tool sai so if you use that you should have no trouble starting with aseprite. i am an intermediate level artist but i see no reason why a beginner would have any trouble, especially with all the tutorials available.

one thing i like a lot about the program is how it comes with some built in color schemes that match the colors used in various retro gaming systems and computers. it has a lot of useful ways to utilize colors such as being able to make your own gradients which is nice.

the program runs smoothly and has a lot of options, and the fact that you can make animations with it is awesome. it's simple to use but still very powerful and has a lot of utility.

the program is beyond worth the money i paid for it and i highly recommend buying it, whether you're a newbie, a hobbyist, or a professional. it's fun stress relief as well as an effective art program.
