Very recommendable if you like space and grand strategy games, BUT, be warned, this is a HARD game. I've played over 500 hours and I've never even come close to winning. You can play wide, you can play tall, you can be friendly, unfriendly, whatever, the game will find a way to ♥♥♥♥ you. Mad respect for anyone who's ever won. Only advice I can give is get your fleets up quick and don't ever stop building ships--you can NEVER have enough ships. Also, starbases are trash. Don't waste resources on defense platforms, at least not early on. They will not stop a strong fleet no matter what their power rating says. Just get more ships because you can bet your neighbors are.

It makes me kind of sad because although there are many theoretical ways to win, it basically always comes down to who has the bigger stick. Which I suppose is realistic in a way. If you are not hyperfocused on naval capacity, fleet command limit, and just BUILDING MORE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SHIPS from DAY ONE, you are going to get stomped and ground into fine space dust and quick.

Sorry for the caps and the chip on my shoulder, my race of isolationist robots just got annihilated last night after I spent TWO HUNDRED YEARS building up my defenses.

tl;dr it's a good game, you should try it if you like pain.

Addendum: I was playing with scaling on--big mistake. You can never get over the AI's starting advantage. Now I'm playing Grand Admiral with scaling set late-game and it's much better, early game is actually fun instead of 12 hours of sphincter-clenching.

Punishes you mercilessly for any mistake.

Teaches you death is a part of life.

Makes you work your ass off for even a tiny bit of praise.

Soundtrack is really good if you're wondering why you should pay money for a free game.

$60 to remind me that making buying decisions based on nostalgia is a really bad idea. Worth every penny. DOA6 is like an OnlyFans ♥♥♥♥♥ that asks for tips to see videos when you've already subbed.
