I had heard that this game was a terrible remaster, that it would crash constantly and was generally unplayable. It put me off getting the game, but I decided to roll the dice and see if my copy would work. I'm glad to say I didn't experience a single crash or bug, this game is 100% functional and amazing.

Relive one of the defining games of the late naughties. It's beautiful, it's fun and it's interesting. I had a blast 100%ing the achievements and the DLC is actually really good, better than some of the base game in fact.

Play on survival mode for a decent challenge, although like most games you will hit a point where you are too powerful and the game becomes a bit easy, so don't even bother with lower difficulties.

So would you kindly buy this game?

In a nutshell it's “Boo! Haunted House!”

Walk, or limp rather, through a carnival haunted mansion ride where a spooky rubber spider might fall into your lap or a Dracula will burst out of his coffin at any moment! Isn't it scary when someone sneaks up behind you and flicks the soft part of your neck with a rubber band... every two minutes?

Yeah I know I'm not really making sense but I'm trying to describe how I feel Layers of Fear handles horror. In a world where giants like Silent Hill and Resident Evil have already perfected the horror formula; with its high peaks and low valleys, LoF decides to flip the script by getting rid of the valleys all together.

What I mean is that there is no down time in this game. It's just scare after scare after scare. Not even well deserved scares either, you know the kind. Where solid atmosphere creates an uneasy tension that builds up inside you until it is released with a cathartic snap that leaves your heart racing.

Layers of Fear prefers to zap you with a sudden visual jolt accompanied by an ear piercingly loud non-diegetic stinger. It is commonly known in the horror circles as a 'jump-scare'. These aren't generally a bad thing, if done well, but not when it's your only trick. You see it’s just not fun and not truly scary to be jolted every 2 minutes.

HOWEVER I still think that it’s a more creative game than most, you can tell the developers actually put effort into this title; it's prevalent in the graphics, sound design, mechanics and overall game feel. So despite their frustrating scare tactics, it’s still worth buying ON SALE if you’re in the mood for a short burst of jump scare fun.

Fun, but not full price fun. Pick it up on sale and experience what most consider a horror classic.

My only gripe with the game is that it shows its age a little, constantly forgetting whether it's supposed to run at 30 fps or 60, dipping back and forth between the two. It also did some strange stuff with my desktop, I would close the game and find things moved around. I think the games fullscreen/aspect ratio settings are a little broken.

All in all though a fun yet short horror experience. It elicited some legitimate feelings of fear and dread out of me, and it might for you too. Like I said pick it up on sale.

A truly remarkable game, probably the best in the Arkham franchise. Everything about the base game is near perfect. You will have a great time playing as Batman, whether it's in a street brawl or in a shadowy corner. The atmosphere is immersive and all the characters have been done fantastically.

However, I would stay far away from Riddler's Revenge if I were you. I bloated my playtime up by an extra 50 hours getting all of the medals. There's over 200 to collect for each character, and 4 characters to play as. You can obtain 3 medals at a time by completing 3 tasks per map or 9 at a time during campaigns. It's an un-fun mess of a nightmare that I found myself completing probably due to a sense of Stockholm syndrome. The CIA should get terrorists to play as Catwoman in the Ridder's Revenge maps as an interrogation technique.

But let me finish off this review as a compliment sandwich, because I really do want to stress that the base game is absolutely fantastic, and the Ridder's Revenge DLC is 100% optional. I think it's fair to say this Rocksteadys iteration of Batman in this game is one of the best, and this game is definitely work a buy, on or off sale.

Steam refunds are limited to 2 hours of playtime? Better make the game 2 hours and 10 minutes long... Pretty sneaky, sis.

Really though this is a quaint little walking sim with a very specific story, a story that I don't really think was made for me. So it's hard to judge this game.
I think this game could really resonate with your personally, leaving a lasting mark in your memory. Or you could find yourself wishing you watched a playthrough on youtube, although I find with these games it's nice to be able to take your time, which youtube doesn't allow.

I think if this game was mega cheap on sale it's worth a buy. The additional commentary alone is actually pretty interesting. But don't be a chump and buy it full price like me.

While it is a competent addition to the Arkham franchise, it's definitely the weakest of the collection.

My two main gripes are that it has so many pointless online features, game modes, and achievements, and yet the servers are offline so it's all useless anyway. Why does the game keep asking me to follow Batman: Arkham Origins on Twitter? Go away.

Secondly the Riddler trophy puzzles are painfully easy. In previous installments you were provided actual riddles for you to solve, and puzzles in the open world for you to complete. In this game every puzzle goes like this: "Have you unlocked this gadget by playing the campaign yet? You have? Well then press A to solve puzzle." There was maybe 3 of 200 puzzles that were anything close to puzzles, and even then they were easier than the puzzles in those Lego games. You dont even get a good reward for doing them all.

I suggest just play through the main campaign and enjoy the story. Then go play Arkham City, it's much better.

Konami and Capcom are carelessly walking down a hall, each from opposite ways. Suddenly they collide:
"Hey, you got your Silent Hill in my Resident Evil!"
"Well you got your Resident Evil in my Silent Hill!"
Bethesda, watching from a distance:
"That gives me an idea..."

Seriously though, I've had The Evil Within 2 sitting in my library for ages, and I recently decided to play it without any expectations other than it's a psychological horror game made by a decent developer. What I didn't expect was just how good of a Silent Hill/Resident Evil mashup this game would be. The game provides both an entertaining third person shooter experience and a chilling psychological trip.
Even down to the enemy designs, you have mindless zombies rushing at you one moment, and the next you have an amalgamation of flesh and metal hunting you down, moaning in disturbing pleasure at the thought of ripping you a new one.

I never actually played The Evil Within, I did however watch a playthrough of it, so I knew the story. But I believe that TEW2 is a better experience than the first, mainly due to the open-ish world environment. You can explore the crumbling town of Union at your own pace, spending as little or as much time as you like finding hidden items and supplies, which I recommend you do if you play on Nightmare difficulty.

And I highly recommend you do play on Nightmare, the stronger enemies and worryingly low supply of ammo will leave you fighting for your life until the very end of the game. There's nothing I hate more than having maxed out ammo at the end of a survival game; it deflates all the tension. Rest assured, in Nightmare mode you will be counting your lucky stars if you have a full clip. You will have to rely on keen resource management and exploration to get through it, which I believe is the very essence of any survival horror worth its salt.

The game is fairly long for a single player narrative game, however it feels a little artificially inflated at some points. You get to a section you might think is the climax, only to discover it's the ending of the second act, and that you still have plenty of game to chew through. Not to say that the whole experience wasn't enjoyable, it just didn't feel like it was all planned out from the very beginning.

The combat is engaging, especially in Nightmare mode. Enemies feel threatening throughout the game, and killing them is thoroughly satisfying. However the stealth sections do reveal that their AI is pitiful. They have the memory of a goldfish, regularly forgetting I existed if I duck behind a wall. And their tunnel vision allows me to sneak up behind them fairly easily to go in for the backstab kill.

All in all, The Evil Within 2 was a deeply enjoyable game that I did not see coming. Its price is still inexplicably steep despite it being years old at this point. I would suggest picking it up on sale, and you will have a great time.

TL;DR This survival horror feels like Silent Hill and Resident Evil combined, and is a welcome addition to Bethesda's impressive selection of quality games.

A totally fun and adorable game that's a must play for anyone nostalgic for the old N64/PS1 collectathon games. This indie title is more polished and has better gamefeel than some AAA games. Plus the Seal the Deal DLC adds legitimately challenging missions for you to do that will make you pull your hair out. Would recommend.

Not quite as charming or deep as something like Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, but Enter the Gungeon is still an outstanding rouge-like bullet hell. Plenty of guns to play with, and an actually challenging difficulty level, this game will entertain you for hundreds of hours. 'Nuff said.

A pretty decent first-person action/survial-horror experience. The story was actually quite interesting and they kept it all pretty digestible.

My one issue is the difficulty. I played on "Nightmare" mode on the first playthrough with all of the handicaps on, and it was still pretty easy. It's like they don't expect you to loot every container, so by the end of the game I was overflowing with healing items and ammo. The AI is pretty tough at first but you eventually learn how to kill them.

Still the first 5-10 hours are very entertaining and a great experience, and finishing the game didn't feel too laborious.

Buy this game if you want to play a good first-person story oriented game, I just recommend you beef up the difficulty. I imagine this game is a cakewalk if you played on normal.
