I bought this at launch in 2016 and refunded it (on PS4). Now, after returning to it this year and having put 150+ hours into it at the time of my review, I can safely say that this is one of my favorite games, ever. There has been no shortage of things to do, places to explore, ships to hunt, crops to farm, pirates to blow up, or pretty much anything else you can think of doing.

I've spent time building an aquatic base with a friend. I've spent hours fishing while playing on my Steam Deck and watching sports in the background. I've spent hours exploring the harshest environments on the most hostile planets while struggling to keep my hazard protection active. I spent a few hours min/maxing my exosuit and multi-tool just because I can. It's totally not necessary, as the game isn't hard, but I did it anyways because the game lets you. I've spent over 10 hours building a city on my personal freighter and I still love it every time I step out onto the deck.

No Man's Sky in 2024 is absolutely worth it, especially given the fact that every single update has been FREE. You pay for the game once, and that's it, you get everything. At this point my confidence in Hello Games is so high that I'll be buying Light No Fire on day one, even if it underwhelms, because I know they'll stick with it, and they deserve way more of my money than the $20 I spent on this game.

Starfield isn't good, and it isn't bad. It's just...boring, which might be worse than being bad. Some bad games are so bad that they're still entertaining. Starfield isn't entertaining. It feels sanitized. Nothing you do has any real impact. The locations are too small to be believable. Neon, which is supposed to be dirty, gritty and cyberpunk, is still PG-13 at worst. Comparing it to Night City exposed just how sanitized it is. The worse aspect of the game HAS to be the temples, of which you need to do nearly a dozen just to advance the main quest. It's an empty room, which you float around for a minute or so, then you fight one enemy (the same enemy every time, no less). It's the laziest, most repetitive game design I've seen since Anthem.

The POIs on the procedurally generated planets are straight up copied and pasted. The same enemies spawn in the same spots. The coffee mugs will be in the same spot. The landmines will be planted in the same spot. The caves and dungeons in Skyrim really put the POIs in this game to shame.

Maybe BGS can turn this around with future updates. I hope so, I really do, because I've never tried to hard to like a game before. As it stands now, it's just plain boring, which is the worst thing a BGS game can be.

This is one of the greatest RPGs, and games in general, that I have ever played. It's an absolute labor of love and I would recommend it to virtually everyone.

If you loved Battlefield 3/4, you're going to love this. If you love Squad, you're going to love this. If you love Insurgency...you get the idea. To me, this is a Battlefield-like game first and foremost. The map icons, squad icons, prompts, etc. are all pretty identical to Battlefield. The maps are big, the servers hold tons of players (127 v 127, 64 v 64, 32 v 32, 16 v 16) and the gunplay is fantastic (and it also feels like Battlefield). The low-res poly graphics style takes some getting used to, as does having to use bandages to stop from bleeding out, but it's still definitely worth getting into. I still can't believe a dev team of THREE PEOPLE made this and continue to work on it. New maps are continually added, as are new game modes.

As far as the differences from the other games I listed, there are no jets and will not be, per the devs. Same goes for shotguns. If you play on a controller, there is currently no controller support, and only partial support is planned because the devs say there are more inputs in the game than there are buttons on a controller, but we'll see if they find a way to deal with that.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for fans of Battlefield, especially if you're been as disappointed as I have in DICE's iterations in recent years.

The survival game for people who can't stand hardcore survival mechanics. Great for people like me who want to grab a friend or two and just build until the sun comes up.

It's Yakuza. It's whacky, fun, serious, not serious, frustrating, and wonderful all at the same time. The only frustrations I have are the caberet club and Majima construction mini games (and I realize that's an unpopular opinion, I just don't like management sims or RTS games), and even then they are totally optional. I'm in it for the story and the sub-stories, and in that, Yakuza Kiwami 2 completely delivers.

Probably one of the best co-op games I've ever played. The puzzles are fun, interesting, and somewhat challenging, the story is decent, and the visuals are amazing. The controls are also tight and responsive.

I'll start by saying that yeah, server queues suck, and it's a bummer that we have them. That said, they haven't been THAT bad. I've got 4 hours of queue time in my 50 hours of playtime. Moving on.

I'm not a regular MMO guy. I usually bounce off of whatever MMO I try (including WoW and modern FFXIV) within 10 hours. That hasn't happened with New World. Everything about the gameplay loop is perfect for me, to the point that it feels more like an action RPG with survival elements than an MMO. The combat is real-time action, with 3 abilities on your hotbar per weapon. You can have two weapons equipped, and each gain levels individually, so you don't have to worry about skill point allocation. Weapons scale with certain character stats. For example, warhammers scale with Strength, Rapiers with Dexterity.

Crafting, for me, is the real draw here. Each crafting ability and gathering ability (smithing, mining, logging, etc) levels up individually as you use them, so you don't have to choose a profession here. You can do it all just by, well, doing it all. The feedback from gathering and crafting is extremely satisfying, to the point where it's what I spend most of my time doing.

A few week points are story/quest structure, fast travel, and grouping with friends. The story is weak, no two ways about that. You'll probably start skipping dialogue from quest givers at about the 5 hour mark. Every single quest is "go here, kill x amount of things, loot x amount of containers." Seriously, that's every quest. Fast travel is a bit weird too. You can recall to an inn of your choice from anywhere, once per hour. Otherwise, you can fast travel from towns or fast travel portals, but it costs a resource called Azoth, which has a carrying cap of 1,000. If you're not questing, it can be easy to run out, and the more stuff you're carrying, the more it costs to travel. Be prepared to do a lot of running. Grouping with friends can be difficult because your starting zone is randomized, and friends cannot share quests or quest progress. That can be frustrating, but is easily overcome with a little bit of communication. Despite these flaws, I still highly recommend the game, as the gameplay is just too fun and engaging to be soured by the other issues (which hopefully will be fixed in the future).

PvP is an area where I do not and probably will not have a ton of experience. I've had fun with what I've done so far, though. Territories seem to change hands every other day, so there is pretty much unlimited content there for those who want that. I'm happier just paying the taxes wherever I live and not worrying too much about that stuff for now.
