base game was an absolute cakewalk, and then the update gave it some spice. we're here for it and love it so much.

As much as we tried to like this game, it felt like it spat back 30 different reasons why we shouldn't. No WASD rebinding at launch meaning our left handed friend can't play. Alright well, maybe the gameplay is fun. No, all guns but your own feel like they deal about 50x the damage even if you are hitting shots consistently. The card game aspect? You start off with a deck that feels like it was just slapped together, not a deck that was made to teach you how the game works and you can't change it at the start without beginning the grind.
Again, really tried to like this game but it felt like it just snapped back and said to not bother.

before we start talking, from a person who's really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ into battletech lore they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ squander whatever they could've done with the plot. overall, the game itself is pretty decent, and the vanilla experience isn't too bad all things considered. if this was someone's first entry into battletech stuff, we'd say they'd like it. we had a lot of fun taking out mechs, fighting to the very last thread and making it out. the missions themselves are a little repetitive, but as long as you're paying attention to what your part is in the mission they can be entertaining. the problem comes with the basic plot of the main campaign. while the plot is incredibly simple (the basic "your father is dead, go avenge him," type plot) it definitely gets you on your feet and says "hey ♥♥♥♥♥♥, go figure out what the hell is happening." the problems mainly come in later in the story, not gonna spoil what happens but it is a severe letdown for anyone who has even the slightest semblance of the lore.
overall, a really decent game with some fun gameplay, but if you're a fan of the world, don't go in expecting much.

Beat it in 2 nights. Game is short, but pulls off its mechanics so well that it really doesn't matter. Although, I do wish that there was some kind of infinite mode (or multiplayer, but I wouldn't pester the devs about it, the game is good enough on it's own to the point of not needing it in the slightest). The story mode does a lot of things while sticking to some basic mechanics and ends up making the game feel really well fleshed out. I did have some small gripes about the exposition placement in some parts (the short videos you receive after meeting certain criteria progress-wise).

HUGE EDIT:
At the time that this was originally made, Kaycee's Mod (an in development addon to the game) was not yet out. With Kaycee's mod, it fills in my want for an infinite mode. It easily bumps this game to a 10/10 without a doubt. If you haven't, GO PLAY THIS GAME. NOW.
