After getting surprised by how amazing they managed to make the first game, 2K surely reminded me how lazy they are with this one. Not only it's barely a "remaster" but it's a massive downgrade from the original game too.

Checkpoints are horrible, models disappear or turn into a zombie in some cutscenes, the dialogue sometimes overlaps and characters repeat the same lines over and over, police are way too forgiving to the point where I had no issues whatsoever which is bad, on hard mode the enemies can shoot you through walls and they just randomly one-shot you, there are parts that I'm sure they have never playtested...

But the worst of all, the optimization is horrendous. I have a 4070 and I couldn't believe my eyes when my FPS went down to 20 just out of nowhere. This happens in some shooting parts where there are lots of enemies and they keep throwing molotovs. None of these issues were in the original game.

All they ever did was just some fancy lighting around the city and window dressing to make it look like they added a few things.

Mafia II is one of the greatest games ever made, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is one of the worst remasters ever made. Do yourself a favour and play the original. Don't bother with this one.
