Absolutely unique experience that had me entirely hooked (and a little bit conspiracy theorist) the entire time.

First and foremost this has to be an example of some the the best storytelling in video games. I won't spoil anything here but suffice to say its the type of story that is so good it has my itching to find someone to talk about it with.

This Storytelling is back up with great art direction which creates a superb atmosphere to draw you in even further, not just visually but with some really great sound design.

The game-play, within the game-play that is itself within the game-play is also fantastic, same with all of those other layers of game-play.

I have really enjoyed what little of this game I have got to play and thats the problem I can't play because I constantly run into 4+ hour queues to get into the game. I enjoy the game but wait until you can actually play it

Updating this review:

So after the server issues died down and I was able to play I came into what was initially a highly enjoyable experience with an interesting combat system, stuff to explore and progression and I couldn't wait to see what was around the corner.

and that is precisely where the problems start, you never really round that corner, there is nothing there.

There is a very solid foundation with nothing really built on it the combat quickly falls into a fixed meta which gets stale, especially considering that you essentially don't have access to pvp unless you are willing to put in hundreds of hours to grind to get the best gear possible and you are part of one of the big guilds on the server (one of which your faction may well not have). There isnt any pvp before the absolute highest tier.

The enemy variety in pve is very limited to essentially just standard undead or big animal. This means pve and quests get stale and repetitive very quickly and turns item collecting for professions into a chore.

speaking of professions they are a huge, intentional grind, this can be a challenge and something people enjoy runescape proves that but the problem is its all really for nothing.
There is no big interesting enemy worth gearing up to fight, no real high end goals to follow, the player market place is screwed when its up and you get actively punished at times because level requirements mean that if you make something too good you can't even use it.

all of this comes to the worst possible feeling i can have playing a game complete apathy

Fundmentally enjoyable gameplay, with cool engineering and a unique challenge, the game is still a little feature sparse but it is early days and I am very excited for this games future

Damn this game was frustrating at times but by the end, especially with how good I found the ending gave me the most satisfied feeling I have had from a game in a long, long time ... Maybe ever.

Valheim truely brings something new a joyful to my gaming experience while being the culmination of the best parts of the survival game craze.

It can be a hard game but I have genuinely never had so much fun screwing up in a game before.

The game I feel can be summerised mechanically as simple but extremely well executed.
The building is simple compared to similar games but somehow everything you build even if its a shack in the woods you have thrown up quickly, ends up looking good.

The crafting is relatively simple, but that just means you don't waste time crafting endless steps and instead your time is spent gathering resources which is fun, in some cases challenging and gives a real sense of adventure.

The bosses and regions feel intimidating and require preperation but this has always felt satisfying to me not frustrating.

At this stage the levels of bugs and glitches are manageable, i have yet to clip through anything or experience many issues apart from online sessions becoming a bit laggy at higher player counts and occasionally walls or doors will be there for one player but not another requiring a re-log
