One of the best games I've ever played. Long Live Larian Studios, one of the last development studios that actually care more about their player base than their bottom line, and as such, take care of their bottom line in the process.

UPDATE:

After the latest Season 5 patch, which was delayed "due to bugs" for 3 weeks, the game is in the worst state it's ever been in post server de-sync issues 2 years ago.

There isn't a single thing you do in this game where you don't encounter a bug. Nearly every 30 seconds you're reminded of the incompetence of the developers and their inability to even log into the game to test.

There are far too many things wrong with this game to list them all. Let's just say that this is probably the final straw for most people.

Game is dead, move on.

The game, while it does combat quite well, does other items extremely poorly. In order for you to get even close to 100% in the game, you need to replay nearly every single level 3-4 times as you'll get power-ups that will be REQUIRED to get all your upgrades. Those power-ups are usually immediately after you complete the level. Almost as if the developers know they're giving your personal time the finger.

Then, when you get to the world's "hub" area, there are jumping puzzles that are horrendously precise. If you are not near pixel perfect, 5-10 times in a row, you'll have to restart the entire thing over again.

Simply put, the developer does not respect you as a player and most certainly does not respect your time. Pass.

The game itself is fantastic as long as you plan on playing alone. If you plan on playing with friends, be prepared to see the messages saying you've been disconnected from the world, or "Unable to summon co-operator" or "<user> has returned to their world".

Three weeks later and still playing with friends is not stable. A joke. I cannot recommend the game in this state.

Many months later and I had to use a mod to seamlessly play with my friends for more than a few minutes before a forced disconnect.

EDIT #2: Finally the HR department fired all the people that were participating in the over-zealous grabbing (AKA zombies no longer grab 24/7/365). I can finally recommend this game :).

EDIT: Came back to this game a year later. Now I feel like I need to call the police by how much I get grabbed by the zombies. Every single zombie does a grab. If you're surrounded, be prepared for 10 seconds of non-stop grabbing, with no way to break the grab outside of a quicktime event that breaks the flow. You're doing a heavy attack? Even if the zombie takes damage, it'll still finish its grab animation and your weapon randomly disappears from their heads and they grab you. It's annoying and unfun. Still a no for me.

I cannot recommend the game in its current state unfortunately. There are too many things broken. It's just not fun. You're fighting the system more than the zombies.

It was good with friends.

Quite the different game. I haven't played any with the same premise.

Two annoying things
1) Nearly every collectable is missable.
2) Auto-saves ONLY.

Everything else is pretty decent.

Decent game.

The game was good ... until they released a 35GB patch where approximately 34.5GB of the patch is for the free multiplayer.

Now, granted, this is a welcomed sight to see a company doing this, however given that I am running over a metered connection, I cannot spare 35GB to download content I'll never use. Because of that, I can now no longer play the campaign. Thanks guys :).

I mean, it's okay, I guess.
