I’m a big Alien fan, specially the more horror focused movies, been waiting to play this for a long time and when it went on sale a while ago for 2 bucks I knew I couldn’t miss the chance.

First things first, this is THE Alien game and it deserves all the praise it gets, they absolutely nailed it, if you’re a fan of the movies or horror games in general you’ll not be disappointed. The tone is the same as the 1979 movie, you get that feeling of hopelessness and dread everywhere you go. All the levels have that retrofuturistic style that Aliens fans love and the graphics are great, specially during the out of the station sequences , if you manage to relax a bit and appreciate the scenery you’ll feel like you’re actually there, this really sets the mood. The soundtrack fits perfectly within the game, filled with screechings and bangings that will get you on the edge.

The plot takes place for the most part in a giant space station and it’s your job to find out what the hell is going on, complete your assignment and of course, survive. I found the story to have more depth than the one from the original movie. It’s much more complex than: “There’s an Alien on board, let’s survive and kill it”, you’ll find out that there are a lot of things wrong in this place. It also features some cool references to the series lore, specially in relation to the fate of the Nostromo space ship and the Weyland-Yutani company. You’ll come across some familiar names and places when reading the logs.

The gameplay revolves around getting to a place, collecting stuff, turning on a device and finding new intel, while avoiding enemies and impending death. There’s some backtracking but it doesn’t get repetitive, the changes of environments and pacing really help here. It doesn’t really have those “out of nowhere” jumpscares so that’s a plus, you can see them coming. The only “issue” I had is that during almost every mission something goes wrong, by the end of the game you’re already expecting everything to be futile and waiting for the “twist”, after completing something or hitting a buttom I usually went like “What now?” or “Oh man, here we go again!”.

Now let’s talk about the star here that is the Xenomorph and oh boy it is ruthless, it really feels like “The Perfect Organism”, playing on the hardest difficulty means that everytime the nasty creature gets to you it’s a one-hit-kill (GAME OVER MAN!), which make this game EXTREMELY STRESSFUL, because of this I had to take breaks during some “Alien heavy” levels. During the reactor mission for example my heart was racing like I was running a marathon, I had an adrenaline rush. The facehuggers are also nasty, they’re quick, hard to spot and they're also a one-hit-kill, your best bet when dealing with them is to destroy their eggs before they hatch. During the encounters with the big Xeno your only options are: To hide, have happy thoughts and pretend it’s not there; Try to avoid it by going around (very effective but not always possible); or scare the damn thing off with fire using your scarce supply of crafting materials and weapons, but guess what, they’re always lurking, they’ll eventually return and there are more than one, you never truly get rid of them.
The problem with the first option is that you can’t hide forever, you’ll eventually have to leave to complete something and the foul creature will manage to track you while you do so. At least you have a motion tracker to help you predict these encounters and avoid them. My strategy usually changed with the mission, sometimes I scared them off with the molotov, some other times I crouched around and through the vents and in some ocasions I just ran for my life.

The Aliens are not the only enemies you’ll encounter and this is where the game gets seriously creepy, the working androids at the station went “haywire” and they’ll try to kill you whenever they spot you. They’re basically killer manequins, saying things like “Let me help you” while choking you to death, very disturbing and unsettling, some levels are filled to the brim with these vile beings. They’re the enemies you’ll encounter the most and sometimes you’ll have to face more than one, at least you can destroy them and they’re easier to avoid. You’ll also face some gun toting humans that can pack some serious punch, but again, they’re easily avoided, can be killed and there are not that many of them.

I mentioned that this game gets extremely stressful, while that sounds like a bad thing and in most cases it is, in this game it’s justifiable, I really hate frustrating games so I wouldnt have played it if that was the case here. I don’t know how the normal difficulties work, haven’t played them yet but in hard it feels like a true horror experience and that’s why It works, it’s hardcore, if you’re expecting sunshine, rainbows or a horror with some kind of comic relief like those PG rated “scary” movies, this is not for you.

I highly recommend this game, to old fans and survival horror enthusiasts alike.

I'm a huge RE fan, specially the original Playstation trilogy. I did not play the gamecube remake so this PC version was my first time seeing the original in HD. The OG was my first horror game, I remember how difficult it was for me to play it as kid. One of the first games to really get my attention with its story and characters, to make me care about what’s going on.


The first one remains my favorite in the entire series and this HD Remake just nails it, makes it even better. The things that made me fall in love with the game, the eerie location, the uncanny feeling when you’re exploring the mansion, the characters with hidden stories and agenda, the conspiracy, the creepy notes, they’re are all here and improved. The dialogue is still corny, the camera fixed and the controls clunky, but that’s part of this game’s essence, so to me it’s a plus.


I feel like I have to write a paragraph to one of the things that makes this game so special to me and that’s Jill Valentine. I fell in love with her the first time I played and I still am. She’s in my top 3 favorite female characters of all time, to witness her glory in 1080p was awesome, Julia Voth is a phenomenal model, they really did her justice keeping the costumes and the attitude.


That’s the thing that makes this so great, they remade it but kept most things untouched, changed some dialogues, added some new side stories and stuff that expands the lore, but they did not try to follow an agenda, shove DLCs in it, change the story or add a pointless mp mode. The game still hits the same, it’s faithful to the original, the things we loved that stayed with us back then are still here and I appreciate it.



This game will always hold a very special place in my heart.
