i'm having fun

update: I'm no longer having fun.

This game is shallow. Many mechanics, only a few fleshed out. Shipbuilding? Fantastic. Character creation? The best so far. But everything else? Decent; okay; fine; not impressive.

- The story was enjoyable enough. A good attempt at a "first contact" narrative. 3/5
- The graphics are hit and miss. Sometimes the game looks really good. Especially moons. The lighting is also very flattering—which it needs to be, considering the robotic and frankly outdated faces. 3/5
- The soundtrack... exists. While it is hard to live up to Jeremy Soule's Skyrim OST, this one does not even try. It has one memorable motif which it repeats. And that's it. Otherwise it's really just Fallout 4 but with more reverb. 2/5
- And then there's the gameplay. Gunplay is better than Fallout 4 for sure, and no–gravity firefights are pretty fun. But they are rare. Space flight is cool; managing your power levels sounds stressing and rewarding on paper, but in reality the challenge of power–management is very simple. Full throttle when traveling, evenly distributed when in combat. That'll get you through most of your time in space. Which, by the way, is not a lot. You do not fly from planet to planet, No Man's Sky or Elite: Dangerous style. Or indeed, in any space–game style. No, you simply open your map, click the planet you want to go to, and then you turn on your not–Hyper–drive and fly through a loading screen. That's it. Space–traveling in the space game is a loading screen. 2/5
- Characters are dull. There are no memorable lines in this game. The closest to a likeable character is whoever you fancy during the optional romance. Otherwise they are equally bland. All boasting optimism and hope. Except the one bad guy. He's bad.

This game is not bad. But it's not good. It's mediocre and it doesn't bring anything new to table. Get it on sale and be aware of the misleading advertisement.

The best of its genre, probably because its the only one. Replayed it countless of times on my old Xbox, my Xbox One, PS4 and now again on PC. The setting, characters, soundtrack, story and world is incredibly good and I am forever saddened that there is no sequel to either its story or characters.

The motion capture for the face can look dated compared to what we have now, but it was revolutionary for 2011. Besides, you know it's an old game. You get used to its dated-ness.

A good sequel, and even better with DLC's.

Good graphics, good soundtrack, good gameplay, great story.

A few edges to smooth out here and there, but that'll hopefully be fixed in a patch.
