If you want a tl;dr I really recommend the game. If you're interested in reading the full thing I'll go into detail about what makes the game special and why it's one of the most fun games I've gotten into.

Omega Strikers is a fast paced 3v3 game that's easy to understand yet has a very high skill ceiling if you're willing to put in the effort. The game is getting balance changes through micropaches on a regular basis and is designed in a very competitive way that's designed for players that want a game to get good at and compete against others.
If you're not looking for a game to become good at but rather for a game to play with your friends I still recommend the game as it's easy to understand and get into as the principles aren't very complicated and due to it being free there's really no harm in giving it a go.

The base principal is two teams of 3 players trying to get a ball (the core) into the enemies goal. The game has different characters with different abilities that can be used to try to score or defend a goal. Instead of trying to get a goal there is also the option of killing enemy players in order to gain a player advantage while the enemy player is waiting for their respawn timer to expire. The default gamemode is a best of 5 game of singular sets that are also run in a best of 5 fashion.

Omega Strikers offers different characters that can all be played in both a goalie and a forward position. Although most characters seem like they're designed for a specific position all characters can be played in both roles and perform surprisingly well, too. A team always consists of a goalie and two forwards and while both roles essentially get similar tools and have access to the same characters there's a different depth to them.

A goalie has the job to defend the goal and stop the enemy team from scoring and while it seems like a simple task that means you're constantly fighting enemy forwards trying to score. The role of a goalie can become very complicated and include reads as your shot has a cooldown meaning if you shoot first the enemy can simply shoot past you, and while trying to get that right you also have to account for abilities that might get thrown at you.
When playing a forward you're on the other side, you're trying to get the core past the enemy forwards and the goalie. While there's still similar reads involved the role of a forward means you'll have to pressure the enemy goalie into making a mistake and try to find ways past them. A goalie's role can be very stressful due to mistakes being potentially game changing when the core enters your own goal.
Both roles are equally complex and have a high skill ceiling which results in most players having a preferred position to play in.

The game manages to not feel the same every game by having different maps and awakenings.
The difference between maps consists of different kinds of hazards. Some maps use gravity fields to influence the way the core moves meaning you'll have to adapt your shots while also getting to go for angled strikes. Another map has a huge wall through the middle essentially splitting it up into two rows that you have to defend. In addition to that a goal has to be opened first by hitting a hazard in front of it. Some maps only have one of these triggers but others have two that both need to be activated for the goal to open.
And there's the awakening system. Awakenings are powerups buffing different skills of your character (e.g. ranged hits or projectiles, your health, your speed or your strength) that get drafted between sets. Players get to pick an awakening in an order based on how active they were in the set resulting in your exact build changing each game.

In my personal opinion the game has a lot of potential to grow as a competitive game and I'm looking forward to see where the game is headed for the future. With active updates and support from its developers it's a game that has everything it needs to stick around for a longer time and I hope to see it grow to become a more well known esports title.
