Disregarding the login servers being down for slightly longer than planned since that's 100% understandable and fair. They were also very transparent about what was happening which was super cool.

The game looks and sounds incredible. Performance is buttery smooth even with cranking up everything that can be cranked; And despite being an always online game, I experienced exactly 0 lag or connection issues since the servers were up. Very impressive for how many players must've been pounding their servers trying to get in.

It has some really great upgrades over PoE1 too, as you'd expect from a sequel. - Wasd optional movement feels great.
- The skill and gem system I feel are easier to understand now than they were in 1, while still keeping their complexity.
- Potions are now less clunky to use
- Dodge roll is nice

Overall, very very solid upgrade / expansion / whatever.

Incredibly addictive and highly fun game. It's got deep mechanical interactions that can require a lot of thought, but you can also just chill and play it to watch number go up.

Highly recommended

Game had a very rocky launch, probably don't need me to tell you that.
But at this point in time, this is an incredible game. It's gotten so many free updates with a ton of new systems and things to do, and they keep adding more.

They've more than made up for any past mistakes, and at this point wouldn't fault them if they wanted to move on to their next project fully.

Steam playtime doesn't reflect actual play time, since I've been playing on/off since launch in 2012.

I originally wrote this long review of the game, but it ended up being quite rambly, so I'll instead just mention two things.

Progression
This is unlike a lot of other MMOs, in which you have more latteral progression compared to the vertical progression of other MMOs.

In something like WoW, you're constantly climbing the progression ladder, getting higher levels or higher level gear, only for the next update/expansion to come out and now you need to catch up again.
In Guild Wars 2, once you're level 80, you're done levelling, even for the expansions; As for gear, once you get a piece of Ascended Gear (Best stats), you won't need to then re-acquire that piece 6 months down the line.

There is legendary gear, but it's almost purely cosmetic. They do look awesome though, best I've seen in any MMO.

What this means is that even if you take a huge break, you'll come back to a character that's basically just as powerful as it was when you left it. Instead of constantly climbing a ladder, trying to catch up with the rest of the playerbase, you can instead play at your own pace, and improve your character how you want. If you take a break and come back an expansion or two later, you won't need to re-level and re-acquire gear.

Story
This game has, in my opinion, the best told story of ANY MMO out there. Yes, even the one you're thinking of.

Granted, it does start out a little wonky, but from the first expansion and onwards, they start hitting their stride and it only keeps getting better from there. The story involves you, and the world actually evolves and changes around you in accordance.
It's a continuous story, instead of just bits and pieces. You feel like an actual part of the world, not just another random adventurer. To give you an idea of some of the changes they're willing to do (and maybe slight spoilers for season 1?); Less than 2 years after the launch of the game, they had the villain siege and obliterate the games main central hub, destroying it in the process, because it was central to the story. It later got completely rebuilt again

----

Overall, this is one of the top contenders on the market for "best MMO" in my opinion. Oh and ofc, no subscription.

Brilliant re-master(?) of the original, with options to play with both the new and old mechanics, should you wish to.

So all the praise that the original got, this deserves, and then some for the improvements it brings.

Great game. Obvious comparisons to Vampire Survivors, but this plays much more like an ARPG.

It's a great mashup of genres and you'll easily be able to get plenty of hours of fun out of it. Music is great, aesthetics are spot on, and core mechanics are solid.

More than worth the price.

Fun Roguelike, but I cannot recommend it until they fix the crashing that's been in the game since 2013 that also corrupts your saves.

The game is playable, but at literally any time, your game could try and save, only to crash and corrupt/deletes your save-file, losing you hours upon hours of progress.

--Edit--
While my save wasn't recovered, I still really appreciate the dev for at least trying.
They said they were working on it, so hopefully we'll see a fix soon?

As I said originally, it's a good game, definitely a lot of fun to be had, but it's hard to recommend when you could lose hours of progress so easily.

Starfield is a 2011 game released in 2023, it's embarrassing.

For a game set 300+ years in the future, all the guns are the same as they would've been set 70 years ago in the Fallout universe. Ballistic or Laser. No interesting sci-fi guns. The melee "combat" is still just a single button bash, or one of numerous melee weapon skins that all have basically the same standard animation. The enemies don't react to damage so guns and melee both feel like you're not doing much at all.

There's also no death animations or reactions or anything, which again makes it feel like they don't much care. You shoot a guy with a .50 cal bullet from a heavy duty rifle? No visual damage or recoil. You shoot a guy point-blank in the arm with a shotgun? No visual damage, no reaction. You hack and slash a guy with a Boarding Axe or a Machette? No dismemberments, no damage. Everyone just falls over in the same bethesda ragdoll style way when they die. Movement is also as clunky and awkward as you'd expect from a 2011 Bethesda game,

Starfield is an Open World game, but doesn't feel like it at all. You've got loading screen after loading screen after loading screen. And if it's not loading screens it's animations you can't skip. It breaks immersion again and again.
On top of that, to the surprise of no-one, the open world feels so mediocre in the places that haven't been hand-crafted.
If you land anywhere on any planet/moon, you'll see the same procedurally generated empty land, with a handful of the same assets scattered about. Found a cool mining base overrun by Spacers? Cool! Until you run into the exact same mining base on a different planet, in a different system, with essentially the same loot, only now it's Space Pirates!

The crafting system is... fine, again for a 2011 game. The biggest problems I found with it, is that EVERYTHING, has weight. Components, medical items, food, armour, weapons; Everything. This wouldn't be a problem, but they don't ever give you enough carry weight. Even with the carry weight perk maxed, you're still gonna end up over-encumbered very easily.

All of this is only adressing the gameplay, not the technical problems, of which there are numerous. Without going into every single one, I'll just say the biggest is that it's not optimised. A lot of developers these days don't care much more optimising their games to run properly. Starfield, less so. It's locked to 30 fps on consoles, but it still runs like garbage on the highest end of PCs.

Overall, I find it hard to recommend this to basically anyone. There's so many other games that does what this tries to do, only much, much better.
