This review does not consider contents from the Frozen Wild DLC.

I've changed my mind after beating the main game.

The only interesting things about this game is the lore and probably the design of the machines. The plot's boring. The voice acting is lifeless, especially Aloy's. The control's clunky. Exploration and quests are repetitive.

The plot is your standard revenge plot. Rost, who raised Aloy was killed quite early in the game and Aloy wanted to kill the group of killers. However, Aloy's very immature and many times made nonsensical conclusions which just annoys me. Aloy also threw some trantrum here and there for no bloody reasons which annoys me even further. There's also these stupid plot points:
-When Nil tells Aloy he was once sent to Sunstone Rock, a prison, even after Aloy had already been to Sunstone Rock and completed all the quests there, Aloy would ask about what is Sunstone Rock as if she had never been there in her live. However, in dialogues with other NPCs, there presents no such issues.
-Helis threw a high yield grenade at Aloy while he was sort of fast-roping down into a cave. Helis was like only several metres away from Aloy and he used an explosive that triggers massive explosion to try to capture Aloy alive (or he actually wanted to kill Aloy, I'm not sure), in a bloody cave, and only several metres away from Aloy, and was hanging from a rope. It was like an explosion would never create any pressure wave or shards. Miraculously, Aloy survived without major injuries despite having a massive explosion right in her face.
-Aloy tried to reach her equipment through a gap in her cage but clearly the gap below is much closer to her equipment than the one she put her hand through. Of course she couldn't reach it.
-There is this side mission where a dude used Machine lures to attract Machines to an estate with the intention of killing everyone there. After Aloy cleared the Machines and learned the truth the dude showed up right in front of Aloy holding yet another lure. He activated the lure but kept talking crap while holding it. He then got killed by Glinthawks.
-Aloy just assumed Olin directly helped the Killers solely based on that the Killers saw Aloy through his Focus. Before reaching Meridian Aloy was just like "I need to question Olin", but just after reaching Meridian Aloy was like "Olin is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ traitor I want to see him burn to death!". Keep in mind that no new information about Olin's involvement was presented to Aloy between leaving the Sacred Land and reaching Meridian.
-Aloy got mad at Sylens for not telling her Hades was actually near the mission objective.
-Aloy got mad after reemerging from All-Mother the Nora's called her the Anointed and started worshipping her. The reason for her to get mad was apparently she used to be an Outcast (despite had become a Brave) and other Noras used to shunned her. However, she was not mad when appointed Seeker. Also what an Annointed is was never explained.
-Aloy showed sympathy to people who had lost loved ones in some scenes, but not to Olin. Even after she had known that Olin was forced to cooperate with his family held hostages, she was exceptionally angry at Olin when confronting him, pointing a spear at his throat. Which also contrasts greatly with Aloy's usual emotionless dialogues.
-A target Aloy needed to kill just killed himself when confronted by Aloy. Or was it an accident? I couldn't understand with the bland and stale dialogues and emotionless plastic faces.
-Quest NPCs just appeared out of nowhere and said they had been following you the whole time.
-Epic music was playing while Aloy was watching a hologram about some dude destroying the entirety of Old World knowledge by erasing Apollo and all of its backups, and suffocated a bunch of knowledgeable people by venting air out of the room.
There are probably other stupid plot points but these are all I could remember at the moment.

The voice acting is also lame. Most of the time people are emotionless, monotonous, and sounded indifferent at times where they should be showing emotions. These phenomenons are most prominently noticed on Aloy. Aloy always talked like she was whispering and sound indifferent. Her plastic face that barely moved also did not help the situation in any way. Aloy also made short commentaries on some of her actions, like:
-picking up rare parts
-picking up plants
-picking up meats
-sliding down steep slopes
-alerting enemies
-enemies were about to drop alerted status
-killing Watchers whiled undetected
-mounts reaching terrains too steep for them
-comments about current weather
These commentaries are diegetic, in other word, Aloy was actually speaking to make these commentaries. She could say these when hiding in tallgrass directly next to a machine and nothing would happen.
These commentaries would not be so much of a nuisance if Aloy was talking like a real human and not being like a damned robot and had some tonal differences.
Aloy's dialogues are also poorly written, especially those that the player can choose, which also doesn't really make any difference.

The control is frustrating.
-Aloy stroke where she was facing instead of where the camera was facing
-slight elevation differences prevents the player from executing Silent Strike or Critical Strike
-Strike from Above is a pain to do when the player tried to jump atop of the enemies
-Aloy stopped moving after coming back from any menu. You stopped walking after opening and closing the map (or any other menu) despite having held down the key for moving forward. This also applies to mounted movement and you would not be able to turn with the forward key held down after doing the same thing. They are quite annoying.
-Aloy can get blocked by things with height as tall as grass like she was blocked by a wall. A corpse of a Watcher is enough to halt your advance or escape. I even got blocked by bloody plam tree leaves once.

Exploration is more or less similar to Far Cry 3 or 4. You climb a tall thing and reveal a part of the map, numerous hunting sites and enemy camps are present on the map. Yes this game's open world is Ubisoft's sort of open world. Quest variety is quite scarce. Track, talk, hunt, that's all the mission types. There are also challenge missions in the form of "Hunting Grounds", which is different from hunting sites.

The design of the Machines is quite good, at least for me. Although some are just slightly modified versions of other machines, like the three mountable Machines, Grazers and Lancehorns, Watchers and Redeye Watchers, and Ravagers are just Sawtooths with a mounted cannon.

Overall, the only enjoyable aspects of the game would be the lore and probably the design of the Machines. Other aspects are meh at best. I also did not bother to play the DLC content after beating the main game.
