F2P for years,
If you get through the turorial and do some quests you get rewarded with high tier units. While you have some grind in front of you if you want to be on the top, you can easily make a difference if you play it well.

AI behaviour needs some work but the frame of the game is really good. The open persistnent map while you are online makes it feel really good and while waiting for a helo can be frustrating it give a huge level of immersion to the game.
