Very enjoyable game, sadly it quickly becomes boring. There is no much content, even for an early access.

Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is far from a terrible game. The core gameplay is reasonably solid and there's some degree of fun to be had while playing it. However, compared to others in its genre it is somewhat lacking in variety and excitement.

The game currently has 4 environments. 3 of these have their own unique gimmicks, but they all largely share the same set of monsters and the final boss is always the same. As such, I more or less saw all the game has to offer in just a few hours. Higher difficulties only bring higher stat modifiers on the enemies. The developers have plans to add more content and given their history of providing updates I don't doubt that content is coming, but the game feels a bit lacking in content in its current state. My main motivation for putting in as many hours as I did was a stubborn desire to complete certain objectives. If you are into such a thing, the game does provide plenty of optional challenges to strive for while you tackle the same content over and over.

Unlike most games in the genre, you only get 4 weapons per run and they appear at set levels. Rather than creating new ones through combinations, each weapon offers a choice of "Overclock" buff when they reach certain levels. While a small number of these can be game changing such as the "only fires directly forward" shotgun having a bounce option that allows it hit enemies behind you while mining, most Overclock options tend to be along the lines of adding a damage over time effect or increasing 2 stats by 25%. Such effects are certainly helpful, but they are far less noticeable and therefore generate less excitement. Outside of Overclock effects, all level ups bring a choice a stat upgrades.

While Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor does not compare favorably to other games in the genre when it comes to shared mechanics, it does have its own unique systems that make it interesting. The player character will mine any rock within a certain range in front of him, carving paths through what enemies treat as walls. This allows you to create choke points while being swarmed or gives you a relatively safe method of circling around enemies. Once you finish tunneling to the other side of the rock, the enemies will register both ends as potential entrances and adjust their routes accordingly, so it is entirely possible to mine your way into trouble and not just out of it. The mining system is also tied to the game's permanent upgrade system. All upgrades require ores that you can mine during missions, so there's incentive to seek them out and not just hole up and kill enemies for the entire duration of the run.

The game is fairly well made and has some good ideas, it just lacks big, highly visible changes that would make each run feel notably different from the next.

The game in it's premise is good. Making it impossible to keep going removes all desire to continue. The replayability is great for a while then it just gets old. The progression stops, the levels get impassable and it feels like the game is actually trying to screw you with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ upgrades. Just gets old. Was great for the first two weeks.
