“Humankind: A Symphony of Civilization and Strategy”

🔥 Entry Log 666: Doom Slayer’s Review

Background Noise: Heavy metal riff, chainsaw revving, demon growls

Listen up, fellow conquerors and map-painters! The Doom Slayer here, fresh from ripping apart Hell’s finest and saving countless dimensions. But today, I’m not wielding my trusty Super Shotgun—I’m wielding my keyboard. It’s time to celebrate Humankind, a game that blends history, strategy, and a dash of cosmic chaos.

The Neolithic Groove 🌐🔍
Humankind takes its own spin on the formula established by Firaxis’ Sid Meier’s Civilization 4X series, with mixed results1. But let’s focus on the good stuff. The Neolithic Era—now that’s a funky beat! Starting as nomadic hunter-gatherers, I felt like a prehistoric rockstar. Collecting food or science to evolve? It’s like jamming with the ancestors. I wished I could stay nomadic forever, but alas, civilization beckoned.

War, Diplomacy, and Radio Hits 📻🕊️
How Humankind handles war is how I honestly wish most turn-based 4X titles did. No more forced invasions or endless pillaging. Just turtle behind forts, watch enemies break themselves on my defenses, and let their war support hit rock bottom. And with the expansion, I can even Wiki-Leak my way to victory. Vasalization? Sure, why not? It’s like saying, “Hey, neighbor, you’re now my vassal. Go fetch me some cosmic coffee.”

Tall, Taller, Tallest 🏙️🌍
Attaching territories to a single city feels so satisfying. I go tall while still owning most of the map. And the best part? Less late-game micromanagement compared to Civ VI. No more herding farmers like lost sheep. (RIP automated workers from Civ V—I miss you, my pixelated minions.) Humankind lets me click “next turn” and watch my win condition unfold. It’s the opposite of Civ VI’s decision overload. Late game? More like cosmic siesta.

The Culture Carousel 🎭🌟
Now, here’s where the rhythm stumbles a bit. Switching cultures every age-up? It’s like changing bands mid-concert. I’m a role-player—I want to feel like a Paladin when I’m playing as a Paladin, or like a demon-slaying monster when I’m Doom guy2. But hey, even rockstars have their off moments. Humankind’s unique selling point might be its Achilles’ heel, but it’s still a wild ride.

Doom Slayer’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Four BFG blasts out of five)

Disclaimer: No demons were harmed during the writing of this review. But my inner strategist? Yeah, it’s humming a catchy tune. 🎸🌌
