Early Access Review
I've for the most part enjoyed the amount of time I've played the game so far, the combat feels smooth (in most areas). And the core game play loop is addicting.
TL;DR:
Weapon systems need work (better boons/hammer stuff), enemies need adjustments, tools need to be altered and ultra wide support.
Otherwise game is good.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the weapon options, the Default weapon feels great to use, and the boons and hammer upgrades you can get through your runs are quite good- But the other weapons feel like they're lacking depth and in general they all feel like they're lacking a way to make them feel different/make me want to play them.

The umbral flames (dual torch weapon) probably feels the worst to use out of all the options (IMO); its basic attack lacks damage, and the various speciality moves that it has also feel sluggish/or clunky.

I feel like a system like in the previous game where you can select a different sub-class of a weapon would be beneficial, and would allow a more in depth combat system.

I don't like the fact that I have to pick one tool and only one tool per run in order to get resources; it isn't a particularly great feeling to start a run and find a bunch of ore veins when you've got the shovel equipped, for example. Perhaps letting us equip 2 tools would be a possibility?

Ultra-wide has lots of black bars in menus, or just art that is cut off, not a big deal, but it is notice able; not sure about standard widescreen so I won't comment on that.

Some of the bosses/enemies feel quite tanky and are a pain to take down, and the shields that some enemies has feels like it takes too long to break.
And some enemies are just annoying to fight against, either due to how they attack, or because they've got a shield which makes them unable to be interrupted. (The screaming enemies in Erebus are probably the worst offender so far)
Hitboxes and dodging mechanics also feel off atleast compared to the previous game.

The updated character artwork for the various deities and such is a treat.
On that topic, I do generally like the art direction of the game's levels so far, however, I think they need a bit more colour to make them memorable, the game right now is very dim.

So far, I'm enjoying the game, so I can recommend it, I'm looking forward to seeing the game at launch.
Right now the game is certainly not as good as the previous game, but it'll surely get better right? :copium:

Not recommended in current state for hopefully obvious reasons which have been harped on to death by others.
Personally, I don't have any complaints as far as optimisation goes, since it, atleast for me is not really affecting gameplay (which is instead being affected in other ways). Of course, it'd be nice to be playing at 60+ instead of the 40ish I was getting. (R9 7900X + 7900XT setup on a 3440x1400p monitor for context).

Optimisation aside, the game as it stands right now just feels like it's still in early access, despite there not being such a tag on the steam page. Building bridges is clunky, building pipes to connect buildings to your pre-existing infrastructure is incredibly frustrating and often requires demolishing pipes then rebuilding them the exact same way you did 6 times before the game finally remembers that pipes are meant to do something. These kinds of small but annoying issues are literally everywhere. How these issues have made it this far is honestly a little concerning.
Additionally, not being able to open the infrastructure view while opening other menus is extremely annoying as well, like, I wanna see where the resources are when I'm building roads, I don't want to have to keep clicking the resource viewer and then resume laying roads every 2 seconds.
I'm sure there is more I could mention, and there are definitely features missing that were previously available in CS1 that aren't available in this game (for whatever reason?).

Overall, the game simply isn't worth buying until all these issues are resolved. If you want a solid city builder then just buy the previous game.
