I won't help anyone who already does, because no amount would save them, but anyone who doesn't already, stick with the official blender discord. it has a server population hundreds of times larger than all the other blender communities combined, and has pretty based moderation compared to those communities
Mr Mage 27 aug @ 16:54
don't use BA if you already have religious affiliation, because that's what it is: a religion

that community is plagued with brown nosers who have nothing but credentialism on their brains. bart v just treats his community as his own personal church where he and the rest of the BA crew are gods

I don't discriminate atheism or any religion or denomination, but worshiping other human beings is just wrong

Sticks are great. :P
Tiffis 22 apr, 2016 @ 19:17
I think if you want to publish something blender related use Blender Artists (forum), as for the other sites I have no idea.

P.S. You called Steam Blender :)

Also I made a stick in blender yesterday. A stick..
Rev. Nalon 22 apr, 2016 @ 15:38
False alarm, my computer is not broken (yet). Also, if you guys can, I've been working with a new way of compositing within GIMP instead of Blender, and I would like your guys' opinion on the render I just did. I also fiddles with the way I put textures on planes too, in case y'all want to comment on that as well.

This is the link here: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=670874727

(P.S. I've noticed that Blender has a 10 MB limit on images, do any of you know a site where I can submit work over 10 MB? Such as DeviantArt, Imgur, etc.?)
Rev. Nalon 17 apr, 2016 @ 18:57
My computer is doing odd things.... O_o

If I'm not on very much, believe in the fact that my computer maybe breaking down :L
+Rusty+ 15 apr, 2016 @ 10:05
hello folkz

hey Nalon trust me your not the only 1 that feels this way.. so many times iv felt like this.. seems when working my dayjob i have great ideas but as soon as i sit infront of the pc all those ideas seem to stop flowing at times.
For me iv only recently started to take alot more needed breaks, you forget how much time fly's by when sitting infront of the computer, so i would recommend to every 1....try to keep track of time.. set your self goals and targets etc to give yourself something to aim for and keep your mind active.
Im always looking to get to know more blender artists and share ideas & help out etc also would love to see some kind of hangout dedicated for blender artists alike...
but trust me everyone goes through those periods of hitting your head against the keyboard your not the only 1^^
Rev. Nalon 14 apr, 2016 @ 16:48
i've never much considered myself an artist, but more of an "anti-artist", I've never been able to draw as a kid, (except for the occasional, mediocre stick person). I like Blender because I see it as a gateway to express my creativity or thoughts in a way I could never do through physical hand-to-canvas sketching.

Also, one other problem I have is that I constantly have school work to do (as seen by my response time to posts on Steam), and can hardly get the time to do me some Blenderin'.

Thanks for your reply Tiffis, I'll make sure to incorporate those kind of thoughts into my works and try to be a bit more "dedicated". :P

@Nalon, ever heard of artist block? That sounds like what you're in right now. For Blender I would probably make a scene from a game/movie or something that you like. For the game I would start with a few very basic assests, put them together and see if you want to commit to a bigger project.

As for books, I love reading and I love writing a story, even though im bad at it. I have no idea about your book so I cant really give you advice. In order for most creative ideas you need to be in the mood, for example a dark rainy day, if that's your thing. For overall inspiration listen to some music you love and look on Pinterest ;)

Hope this helps, Tiffis.
Rev. Nalon 9 apr, 2016 @ 21:04
Sometimes I wonder if I am stretching myself to thin, I'm always contemplating what I should do in the afternoons I have off. I'm always at a loss of whether I should make scenes in Blender, or make assets for a game I may or may not make, or continue writing a book that I eventually want to get done. Eventually, with all the time I spend contemplating, I run out of time to do any of those things.

If you guys have any project ideas to get me more motivated to do something, whether it be on Blender, or some other subject, please suggest to me what I can do! :D

Thanks, Nalon.

I don't even use blender ._.
Rev. Nalon 19 mar, 2016 @ 19:50
To get this contest idea up an running, should I write a forum/guide for how the contests should be run? I.e. How the theme is picked, how an image is scored based on different factors, how to measure the scoring, distribute the scores, declare winner through voting, etc?

I really feel this may be necessary if we want an active Blender community here on Steam :)

Tiffis 17 mar, 2016 @ 22:49
@Nalon, Sounds great! Im currently working on a mining drill and mech though aswell as exams irl, but very soon it will be holidays which means times for blender, plus fresh ideas are always welcome to keep the artist block at bay ;)
Rev. Nalon 17 mar, 2016 @ 20:55
If you guys don't mind, I'm going to start posting links to my renders on here every once in a while just in case you iss them in the Cmmunity Art tab. :D

Rev. Nalon 17 mar, 2016 @ 17:07
Hey guys, we need to find a way to get this group more active, I was thinking that maybe one of us should start a weekly competition that contains a theme, and members can subbmit their work to a forum or something. I guess an appropriate incentive for entering the competitions could be praise and a shout out for that user.

Just a thought,
Nalon Mcall
Rev. Nalon 6 mar, 2016 @ 16:07
Yea, shortly after you guys mentioning it, I googled what it was. Seems interesting but don't know if it is something I would download, or to what functionality I would use it for. I suppose lots of things, like making vents, windows, furniture maybe? Also, does it change any of blender's internal settings to a point where I can't use some feature, or no?
Tiffis 5 mar, 2016 @ 20:49
Bool-Tool, Not boolean tool is an addon to blender that allows you to very easily boolean items, it simply puts it to a keybinding while not introducing any features, well it probably does, but I dont use them :P
Rev. Nalon 1 mar, 2016 @ 19:42
I don't even know what bool-tool is. :P
Tiffis 28 feb, 2016 @ 21:57
Do you have the Bool-Tool, if not, get it.
Rev. Nalon 28 feb, 2016 @ 14:16
@gtaekwondo,

What is your question?
Indy409 28 feb, 2016 @ 12:06
Hey is there any new tools like bollean tool for free or no thanks.
Rev. Nalon 23 feb, 2016 @ 17:27
@Farai, Hey, is that going to be part of the shortfilm you mentioned in the discussions page?
Rev. Nalon 23 feb, 2016 @ 17:25
I haven't been on in a few weeks, I'm glad someone has posted something :D

After watching some BlenderGuru, I've regained a bit of inspiration.
Rev. Nalon 30 jan, 2016 @ 11:59
I put in a ccomment under your artwork :)

Currently I'm at a mix of what I should really make....I'm not too great at making realistic environments for the models I create, so I was thinking the next project I do, I will do something abstract, like a Captain Toad Treasure Tracker level.

Also, I used cycles for the lightsaber project, if you want the node setup for the main material and composition for the scene, I can post it later. :P
Tiffis 29 jan, 2016 @ 20:09
Ok, Nalon..

First of all after I made that comment I did some lighting changes etc and it turned out a bit better, buts its still a massive WIP, you'll see that because part of it is carved out of stone :P. http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=611546190 I'd say that you would be more impressed if you saw it with the plain clay texture anyway, 30 node setups. I've used a few, mainly on my BF 109 F and a fan art I did for MWO. Even though they make sense I still find that basic ones do the job, often better.

I don't like using image textures as a whole, I find that procedural textures make things alot easier, however if I ever use the game engine I will definately be using those listed images. Also, a quick question with your lightsaber, is it made in Cycles or Internal?

Thanks, Tiffis
Rev. Nalon 29 jan, 2016 @ 18:51
XD. I'll take that as a compliment Tiffis.

I personally like modelling more than texturing, but I know a few tricks, and some great tutorials on texturing (not the tutorials with like 30 nodes, but with a few simple ones). If you want to get a bit more into texturing, you should get GIMP or Photoshop to change textures for uses in bump, normal, greyscale, specularity, etc.

Could you send me a link of this Rocket? I'll share a link of my ost recent lightsaber thart I haven't shown you guys yet, but I submitted a week ago: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=592352608

I could teach you a bit about the texturing I did in the project, and compositing. Cheers!

~Nalon Mcall
Tiffis 29 jan, 2016 @ 13:43
Ok guys, (Aka Nalon because hes the only person who replys) Any tips on realistic texturing? I just made a rocket engine but the textures look, 'eh'. Thanks :)
Rev. Nalon 27 jan, 2016 @ 17:32
Yup. :D

Glad someone else knows what that channel is.
Tiffis 26 jan, 2016 @ 22:01
Yup, its a numberphile video isn't it?
Rev. Nalon 26 jan, 2016 @ 18:30
This is a random comment, but have you guys heard the news? The new world's largest prime number is now "(2 to the power of 74,207,281) - 1". :D

Just wanted to let ya'll know.
Rev. Nalon 22 jan, 2016 @ 19:32
Thanks Farai! I'll be looking forward to watching it :D
Rev. Nalon 6 jan, 2016 @ 20:21
I've watched lots of videos from CGGeek, Blender Guru, Tutor4u, and Sebastian Lague (the last one for modeling characters). My problem is that I have the memory of a goldfish and am always forgetting about what shaders do what actions, and how they connect with the other nodes around them.

My computer, which is a laptop, is a powerful machine with an i7 processor, maxes at 3.5 ghz. The main problem with it is that it doesn't have production-standard RAM or a discrete graphics card (I'm stuck with Intel integrated). My most recent submission that I ran at 750 samples, and 50% of 1080p too 15 minutes to render, which I feel is pretty slow, especially if I'm searching for errors or mediocre modeling mistakes constantly.
Tiffis 6 jan, 2016 @ 19:23
There are loads of great texturing tutorials out there, do you use cycles? Also, what is your computer, by the sounds of it you don't own the most powerful of machines.
Rev. Nalon 6 jan, 2016 @ 18:58
I'm not a pre-quel "fan", I just grew up with them, and I felt they were ok. Ep III of the prequels is by far the best though. I was thinking of doing vehicles, as they wouldn't be too difficult to model; my main problem is texturing and compositing. I'm a pro at modelling, except for the part where I overload my computer with too many vertices and faces. Texturing and compositing is just difficult because I never know where to put the inputs and outputs and when to use and not use some shaders.
Tiffis 3 jan, 2016 @ 20:19
Bit of a Prequel fan? Eh? Eh? Well for Star wars ive stuck to the vehicles, AT AT, X wing, N.O. TIE fighter and General Phasma. Phasma was the only exception, even then I just made the helmet.
