The Case of the Golden Idol is interesting; it's a bit of an adventure game, a bit of a puzzle game, but mostly it's a mystery. You have to go through moments of great import to the plot and put together what has happened, by whom and to whom, and put together a story that is largely in your own head. Everything comes together quite well, and the flashes of insight make the player feel quite smart; however, just about everything is logical, and you truly can put together a story from those frozen moments.

There are a couple places where it's not entirely clear what answers the game is looking for, and the final level is a bit too big for its own good, but despite those small flaws, I found this an incredibly satisfying exercise.
