What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Im a first time developer, Early Access will help me get important feedback on my progress!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A rough estimate for the game's release will be around Q4 2024 or even extending towards 2025.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Over the development of Early Access, the features that should be expected to be added along the way are as follows
  • Over 7 enemy types
  • 5 objective types with randomized parameters to keep things fresh
  • Variations in the hallways and rooms
  • An original soundtrack comprising of unnervingly out of place Smooth Jazz
  • Unexpected variance in world generation
  • Many many small details designed to gaslight you
  • Multiple rooms with plenty of enviornmental storytelling
  • Resource management involving heartrate and oxygen

The game's lore and story will be developed parrelel to Early Access, but outside of small hints and such, story content will be only added upon full release”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game currently is not in a state for a full gameplay loop. Early Access will release as soon as I get that part done.

Current progress
  • Claustrophobia inducing hallways randomly generated to connect rooms
  • A strict run timer that you can only speed up
  • In-world UI representing vitals
  • Immersive in-helmet distortion filter

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The more content I add, the pricier the game will be! I plan for the first Early Access release to not cost too much, with an average indie game price tag for the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“All feedback is greatly appreciated and will be taken into account for future updates.

About This Game

"My gaze locks onto the forever upwards gaping maw of the abyss. God damn the sun, for it carelessly shines ever brighter than my dwindling hope of escaping this cancer of a labyrinth. It grows, it breathes, slowly. I fear the descent, for I know, Something Wicked Lies Beneath."

Something Wicked Lies Beneath is a roguelite horror game, where you mysteriously wake up after dying in the metal halls of.... somewhere.

Explore the randomized labyrinth, get a feel of your sorroundings before engaging with your objectives.

Retrieve the battery and drag it to the starting room. Beware, once this is done, there is no going back. You will be under constant pressure by your need to manage your oxygen, heartrate, and having to manually vent CO2.

Complete your listed randomized objectives. By now, the constant pressure surges as the labyrinth will begin playing mind games on you while you are harassed by the denizens from below.

Dying in this labyrinth is a garuntee, whether its from oxygen loss, encounter with an enemy, or other causes, It's just a matter of if you've completed the objectives that determines your "victory".

Once you die, you lose your progress ( unless you "won" ), repeat it over and over and over again.
Don't get too comfortable, there may be unexpected variations between runs.
