Ah sad to hear youre not making assets anymore. If you ever pick it up again, could you give The Stanley Hotel a shot? That's where Stephen King wrote the original, where the legit haunted room 217 exists. wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stanley_Hotel
I got married there, can confirm the spooky spirits. And a beautiful property with cool history even aside all the redrum.

@tboldt1 thanks - it's been a while... I just checked in and realized that this has almost 17'000 subscribers. Cool. Unfortunately I have no time for making more assets atm. I have many ideas though...

God, The Shining was such a great movie, how the hell did I not find this before now? Time to make some long mountainside roads leading up to this place while listening to Midnight The Stars and You.

For an oldie, it's certainly aged much better than the vast majority of assets on the workshop. I'll definitely be using it. I've got a few ideas.

@M_A_K thanks - this is already an oldie... Unfortunately I don't have time to work on more assets for now - I had so many ideas. But glad this old ship still sells...

You can add it to the local RICO settings file (find it in a post in the RICO mod page) that will overide the authors settings. Or just edit the RICO xml for the file for the asset. It will be found in the same workshop directory as the asset.
Simulant  [author] 21 Apr, 2016 @ 11:44pm
@ctcatuga Good question... I made it residential to have more households in my Rocky Mountains 'city' - that's what is mostly needed in the town of Red Rock. But I totally understand if you want it rather be a commercial enterprise. If the hotel and tourism sector wasn't so awkward in CS the choice would be simple...
Anybody knows if you can produce a local RICO specs file or is it entirely up to the asset's author to do that?
ctcatuga 21 Apr, 2016 @ 7:48pm
Awesome building!! Really good job! But just curious, is there anyway I can change the section of RICO that this shows up under? I'd rather move mine to commercial instead of residential where it is now...

Haha man that is a lot of snow. Will do once i get it but i doubt the snow will pile even close to the amount as in that picture lol. Gonna need lots of wind for that too. happy 4/20!

@TheyLiveWeSleep Post some pics with Snowfall! I don't have the DLC so I'm curious how THe Overlook looks like with snow. Although it would need heaps of snow... http://www.postcardroundup.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/timberline-lodge-2.jpg

Mhm well shit if there was one big theory surrounding it then it is the one about the moonlanding. It is either just coincidence or she doesnt know because they compartmentilized some of the details or she is keeping the secret haha. I do have the black and white picture of Kubrick and other nasa officials in mid 60's tho. Maybe they met because he wanted some idea's about space to make his 2001 space odyssey movie. Anyhow, you made a lovely asset thanks for that. I'm getting Snowfall today and i feel like it's going to do well :p
Simulant  [author] 20 Apr, 2016 @ 1:24am
Oh yeah, I totally enjoyed Room 237. It has a nice build up with the statements getting more and more crazy - each of them sort of coherent but totally contradictory to each other. Years ago I was at a talk with Kubrick's wife (who did a lot of the designs) and producer Jan Harlan - they had a good laugh about the theories even before Room 237. They told us anecdotes like about the Apollo sweater that belonged to a kid from the crew and just came in handy... and other stuff. Definitely the movie is full of references (like the Native American background). But a lot of it was purely esthetics. At least according to Christiane Kubrick. (But who knows... according to the moon landing theory she was the fooled one anyway. But again that's hilarious when you meet her - she was very much involved in the making and designing of the movie)
eat ass 19 Apr, 2016 @ 3:05pm
Hilarious is what sense? The indian theories they come up with oke yeah but the most prominent theory is that Stanley Kubrick was paid a lot of money to stage the moonlanding. There are real pictures of SK with nasa officials from before we supposedly went to the moon. It's a interesting coincidence that in one of the scenes the kid is wearing a apollo 11 sweater among some other things going on. His movie 2001 a space odyssey was one of the first really good looking space movies and a year later after that movie came out, we went to the moon. So they saay :P :P
Whatever the truth be, i just find these things interesting and i thought the movie about a movie was pretty neat. It's like one big adventure!

This is so awesome, thank you! I look forward to the possibility of the hedge maze. :)
ConureGuy_411 19 Apr, 2016 @ 2:46am
I see you've done your research. I live in Maine so I'm all too familiar with SKs dislike of the Kubrick version. LOL. It's not a well kept secret.
Simulant  [author] 18 Apr, 2016 @ 11:52pm
@Ziggy_Birdman Thanks for clearing this up. Never watched the TV series - but one thing I know for sure after making this asset and quite some research is that Timberline Lodge OR and The Stanley CO are completely different in many ways. For Kubrick's movie there were just Timberline and Glacier National Park used for EXT shots - all the rest was done in England on the studio backlot and on sound stage. Including the maze.
King didn't like Kubrick's adaptation and supported the TV spin off which was filmed in Estes Park. If anybody makes The Stanley I'd subscribe immediately...:steamhappy:
ConureGuy_411 18 Apr, 2016 @ 10:12pm
@Titanicbuff The TImberline lodge was used as the exterior for Kubrick's adaptation, whereas the Stanley was used for King's adaptation in the television remake.
Titanicbuff 18 Apr, 2016 @ 2:34pm
@Simulant- We are both right- only a handful of exterior shots were The Overlook- however some were the Stanley. Both hotels have the same desgin. In the making of they point out that they filmed almost exclusivly at the Stanley- both hotels provided exterior shots- for example- the hedge maze is the stanley and some of the other external shots as well. Remaining parts of the set still excist at the Stanley including the door that Jack used the axe on- distance shots are in fact Overlook, but on closeups its the Stanley- both naturally look the same. As I said some exterior is in fact the Stanley- looks like we are both correct in this case as both hotels are external shots.
