WTF with the moon face, that's creepy

Not sure how one is supposed to go about notifying you, but I love this theme and used it with a map that I made and shared on the workshop. Hope that's alright.
SelectClay 16 Dec, 2018 @ 7:47pm
I might be doing something wrong with this mod, but my shorelines look nothing like tropical beaches. They look more like soil than sand. I've tried messing with the listed LUTs but nothing seems to do it to get that tropical look.
whatisupyouguys 22 Apr, 2018 @ 9:50pm
I think I have the same issue as Jonark?
Ludio 7 Jan, 2018 @ 9:00am
I'm having an issue with the textures. When i load the save after exiting it the New good looking textures are replaced with the crappy vanila ones, any way to solve this?
Captain Soap  [author] 6 Apr, 2017 @ 6:34am
@Lucky
Take a look at the Beta version with updated textures, which look more tropical.
Captain Soap  [author] 1 Feb, 2017 @ 11:42am
@poonc7
You can do whatever you like with your local files as long as they remain locally on your computer :-)
ThePunisherMP 30 Jan, 2017 @ 3:42am
Can I edit this theme @Captain Soap ?
Captain Soap  [author] 9 Oct, 2016 @ 1:19am
@CertainDeath
:D Use the Tropical Beta instead. The sand texture of that theme will fit your needs perfectly.
CertainDeath 8 Oct, 2016 @ 7:35pm
while creating around a map for 2 days now, i have one point of criticism:
i wanted to make a tropical beach with coral reefs and co.
but with this sand texture it is not possible.
Sure normal beaches look nice too, but it does not come near that what i have in mind - something like in that picture:

Captain Soap  [author] 8 Oct, 2016 @ 1:35pm
@CertainDeath Thanks a lot for your appreciation!
CertainDeath 7 Oct, 2016 @ 8:07pm
good job! Now i can create mountains in my Map, with vanilla i made maps only without steep slopes because of the ugly vanilla mountain texture :D
Why i never looked before what Map Themes can do :D
Also evrything else looks very good! (Definite Vision LUT i use)
Captain Soap  [author] 22 Sep, 2016 @ 1:21pm
@PixelDonkey
That is the downside of using more realistic/variet textures for cliffs/mountains. If you'd like to get future updates improving that texture, subscribe to the Realistic Tropical Beta
PixelDonkey 22 Sep, 2016 @ 12:30pm
This theme looks great except my cliffs are blurry - any idea how to fix?
mars 2 Sep, 2016 @ 6:47pm
can i get your textures? i want to make a costum map theme for personal use:))
mattloveOHIOST5 21 Jul, 2016 @ 6:29pm
Yea I did that, is working now. Thanks!
Captain Soap  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 12:36pm
@mattloveOHIOST5
Press "YES". The loaded Map Theme is the latest version of this item.
mattloveOHIOST5 21 Jul, 2016 @ 12:27pm
But I cant load it, how do I ignore it. Just hit yes cause it says if I do that it will load defaulkt map theme. Do i have to load it as default map theme and then reload it with the realistic theme
Captain Soap  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 11:42am
@mattloveOHIOST5
The game "thinks" that this is a different map theme, cause the version is different. The loaded default theme is the newest version.
Captain Soap  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 11:40am
@mattloveOHIOST5
Just ignore this error message
mattloveOHIOST5 21 Jul, 2016 @ 11:30am
I did notice you updated this map theme just recently but how do I fix this since it won't let me use your map theme at all.
mattloveOHIOST5 21 Jul, 2016 @ 11:29am
Umm i dont know if this is ur fault or not but it says "The custom map theme used by this map or save is missing. A default mapo theme will be used instead. Do you wish to proceed?" Haven't gotten this problem before, didn't happen yesterday when I loaded it
Bartek 21 Jul, 2016 @ 1:20am
Yess, it is perfect now, Thank You Captain Soap! :)
Captain Soap  [author] 21 Jul, 2016 @ 12:41am
@Bartek
Version 1.2.1 should fix it
Bartek 20 Jul, 2016 @ 4:56pm
I dont't know why, but I have issues with this theme now. When I unsubscribe and subscribe again, colours are diffrent, more shiny and not nice like old version :(
Freat 20 Jul, 2016 @ 2:24pm
Hello! Im experiencing issues. Can't use the theme now it says.
Captain Soap  [author] 12 Jul, 2016 @ 5:51am
@mrmichael
I am still working on a new version of this, which will certainly feature all these things you mentioned. The last update to this theme was already several months ago and I'm aware of the downsides of this current version. I'll just do it perfect, so it takes some time.
Thanks for Your notice though. :-]
mrmichael 11 Jul, 2016 @ 1:39pm
Your themes are trully exceptional but in tropical regions the sand should be white (like in Carribean) and water color shouldnt be that dark but more turqoise blue. It's just suggestion not complains ;) if you could do that then it would be trully fab :) I know you could... u r clearly the master in this!
Deadmano 24 Jun, 2016 @ 12:03am
@Captain Soap: Thanks for the explanation, and it is a true pity there is such a limitation because your work is exceptional, yet it is hard to get that photo-finish as the game butchers it. :rcry: It honestly doesn't bother me that much, as there is an entire city to work with, but I just wanted to mention it for just in case, or if it was something my end. If it gets to be a bother I will definitely try out the mod you suggest. Though I am subscribed to this mod, so if ever you make any changes I will get them. Keep well! :)

The game indeed supports 2K textures. The real challenge is, that you have to make sure your textures (especially cliff textures) are looking good from every angle and distance. It would be an tremendous improvement, if CO would implement a down- and upscaling system for textures, which would make everything easier to handle. The zoomlevels are just too distinct and that is the reason why there is no diversity in the vanilla textures: They look okeish from all perspectives, but they are not quite realistic. The main issue is, that if you are using diverse textures, you'll always have those issues - either a blurred close-up or a repetitive aerial perspective.
One more thing to add - you could use BloodyPenguins Environment Changer to use the Temperate theme on your map, until the Beta is being released.
Deadmano 23 Jun, 2016 @ 3:42pm
Oh and, your mods are amazing... When I first saw this I was blown away, something one would NEVER expect from a city-builder: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=709337090
Deadmano 23 Jun, 2016 @ 3:40pm
@Captain Soap: Great to hear it isn't anything on my side then, haha, as I do have quite the assortment of assets loaded! I was just surprised, as my fiancee plays alongside me (without this mod) and here textures are of a much higher quality for the same area, without any mods! Obviously one needs to take into account I played on a 1440p monitor, so what may look good at 1080p could look awful on my screen.

I wasn't aware there was a limit for textures though? What format does the game use? From my modding experience in other games, there was no real limit aside from the VRAM usage. 2K (2048x2048) is the minimum texture size to look good at 1080p, if the texture in question fills up the entire screen. What texture sizes are being used? Judging by the quality I would have to guess 512px or so? As it looks good zoomed out, but close up it is awful. :(

You're right. I'm currently working on a big update in general for this theme and the texture quality will get improved as well. Unfortunately though, the game is limited in terms of texture sizes, so I cannot push them beyond the current texture quality of the European, Temperate and Boreal theme - ecomplished with the latest update.
Deadmano 23 Jun, 2016 @ 12:27pm
Hey Captain Soap! :) I was wondering if you can let me know if there is an issue or such with the cliffside textures (I think it is?) as I tried this out on a map, and for some reason I am getting EXTREMELY low-quality textures, despite all my game settings being set to the max.

@mattloveOHIOST5
Freshpopcorn uses the Realistic Temperate Map Theme, according to his base theme of the map he uses.

@Stefan
You would prefer the sand-color of the original (non-tropical) Realistic Themes?
That's interesting, since I thought it does'nt really matches the typical colour of tropical beaches.
As the tiling of sand texture is not perfect for the tropical theme yet, I'm working on it.
In addition you could use Bloody Penguin's "Environment Changer" to use the European/Temperate/Boreal Map Theme with the original sand texture on your preferred map.
mattloveOHIOST5 13 May, 2016 @ 2:45pm
is this what Freshpopcorn uses, cause San Minato was in that
Stefan 10 May, 2016 @ 2:58pm
I gotta agree with the sand texture complaints. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but on a tropical map, the sand looks tiled on the beaches and is no longer the original color (which I really like), but the rest of the mod looks amazing. I would really apreciate a normal sand option for the mod. Thanks for this! Please let me know if I am doing it wrong.
SergeantShavedBalls 4 May, 2016 @ 9:22am
Ok cool beans. otherwise it looks dope!
Captain Soap  [author] 4 May, 2016 @ 5:12am
@snowsjunky
You're partially right, the sand texture is not meant to be used in such large amounts, neither it is realistic. But when it comes to the ore texture you're right - we are currently reworking it! :)
SergeantShavedBalls 3 May, 2016 @ 5:48pm
The sand and ore textures look pretty bad when in large amounts.
Captain Soap  [author] 21 Apr, 2016 @ 8:44am
@Zavion
Hey, thanks a lot for your comment and your kind words.
There were indeed some issues with the game after the latest small update. I've got those errors as well even though I was'nt able to figure out the reason, but I'm almost secure that's not this Theme. I've heard that there were some issues with the Prop & Tree Anarchy Mod lately as well. I hope you'll get it working again soon :)
To your 2nd main point: There is no mod necessary to use these Map Themes (though I recommend the LUT of course - but that depends on everyones personal taste ;-) ).
You only need tha latest updates of the game, but if you don't use Steam in Offline-Mode they will install by default automatically.
You obviously don't need the Environment Changer, I just linked this mod, cause it gives you a lot of ability and allows you to use certain Map Themes on all biomes.

Good luck to your savegame :) and have a nice day :~p
Vadicus 20 Apr, 2016 @ 8:00pm
Yes, it seems that I must have the Environment Changer mod active in order to load the themes. Works with new game, map editor and exsisting saves. Outstanding. Really like the Boreal Theme. Amazing color and very realistic. Makes my cities look hundreds of times better.... I just realized while typing just now that I haven't even tried the themes with your LUT. What an idiot. Off to try it. Again, fantastic work.
Vadicus 20 Apr, 2016 @ 7:25pm
I'm going to try enabling your Environment Changer mod even if I am starting a new map or trying to edit one. Will update.
Vadicus 20 Apr, 2016 @ 7:22pm
I love the look of your themes, however, after disabling all mod and assets then trying to either start a new map or edit it in the map editor I receive a Null Referrence Error apon loading. Are these themes only for Snowfall or is there something else I need to subscribe to? I do have After Dark, and again no mods or assets are enabled. I know I must be doing something wrong just can't figure out what. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and amazing work. Indeed very realistic. Really like the cliff side mountain textures.
Captain Soap  [author] 19 Apr, 2016 @ 7:53am
@Borklund
Ah, that is your intention ;)
The sand texture is indeed not made for deserts, more for beaches and industrial areas.
For your desert I recommend to use the oil texture. That fits quit well!
I hope I helped you :)
Borklund 19 Apr, 2016 @ 7:38am
Oh I see. I was trying to use your otherwise excellent theme to make a desert map, only to find it looking like that. I guess it's just not suitable for that purpose, but that's OK.
Captain Soap  [author] 19 Apr, 2016 @ 7:27am
@Borklund
The sand is meant to be on small places. I'll increase the tiling size a bit though. The issue is, that it will look ugly on close up otherwise. That's due to the fact that C:S does not support down- or upsampling from textures.
Thanks for your comment!
Borklund 19 Apr, 2016 @ 4:50am
Everything is great, except for the fact that the sand texture has a very obviously tiled look: http://i.imgur.com/QIcLLn2.png If you could please fix that then this theme would be perfect. Thanks!
